Linectra 5 Tablet
Product Summary :
Linectra 5 Tablet is a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4 inhibitor) antidiabetic that contains linagliptin and is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by increasing incretin activity, so insulin release rises when glucose is high, and glucagon falls. Use it regularly and exactly as prescribed. The most common side effect of Linectra 5 Tablet is nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages). It may also cause cough, diarrhea, and headache. This medicine should be used in patients with a history of previous serious hypersensitivity, pancreatitis, and severe joint pain.Written By Dr. Subita Alagh, BDS,

General Information

Product introduction
Linectra 5 Tablet is normally prescribed when diet and exercise alone or other medicines do not prove sufficient to control your blood sugar level. Your doctor may prescribe it alone or in combination with other diabetes medicines. You can take it with or without food. Use it strictly as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine unless your doctor recommends it. It is important to stay on the diet and exercise program recommended by your doctor while taking this medicine. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes.
The most common side effect of this medicine is nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages). It may also cause hypoglycemia when used in combination with other diabetic medicines. Carry sugar or glucose candy and have it to control your symptoms if you experience any (such as lightheadedness, sweating, dizziness, and fainting).
Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, or pancreas problems. Some other medicines you are taking may interfere with this medicine. So, make sure your doctor knows about all the other medicines you are taking. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Limit your alcohol intake while taking this medicine because it can increase your risk of developing low blood sugar levels.
Uses of Linectra Tablet
- Treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus : It helps control high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes. This helps reduce symptoms such as excessive thirst and frequent urination and lowers the risk of long-term complications.
Benefits of Linectra Tablet
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively, leading to high blood sugar levels. Linectra 5 Tablet helps increase insulin release when blood sugar levels are high and reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver. This helps lower blood sugar levels, including after meals, and improves overall blood sugar control. Regular treatment, along with a healthy diet and exercise, helps maintain better control of type 2 diabetes.

Quick tips
- Take Linectra 5 Tablet once daily at the same time, with or without food. Taking it at a fixed time can help you remember your dose and avoid missing it.
- Linectra 5 Tablet may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when taken with other diabetes medicines, particularly insulin or sulfonylureas such as glimepiride. Watch for symptoms such as sweating, shaking, dizziness, hunger, or confusion.
- Keep a source of fast-acting sugar, such as glucose tablets or fruit juice, readily available to manage low blood sugar. If you experience frequent episodes, inform your doctor, as your diabetes treatment may need adjustment.
- Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, particularly rifampicin, as it may reduce the effectiveness of Linectra 5 Tablet. Check with your doctor before starting any new medicines or supplements.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or persistent abdominal pain, especially if accompanied by nausea or vomiting. This may indicate pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), a serious side effect.
- Inform your doctor if you develop severe joint pain or unusual skin blisters, as these may be signs of serious reactions associated with Linectra 5 Tablet.
- Monitor your blood sugar regularly as advised by your doctor. Follow a balanced diet, stay physically active, and attend regular follow-up appointments to help manage your diabetes.
- Do not stop taking Linectra 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor, even if your blood sugar levels improve. Stopping treatment may cause your blood sugar levels to rise again.
