Trioptal 300 Tablet is an anti-epileptic medicine. It is used to treat and prevent seizures associated with epilepsy. It is important to not stop taking this medicine abruptly without consulting your doctor as it may increase the occurrence of fits.

How to use Trioptal Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Trioptal 300 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Trioptal Tablet works

Trioptal 300 Tablet is an antiepileptic medication. It controls seizures or fits by decreasing the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Trioptal 300 Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.
Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Trioptal 300 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Trioptal 300 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Baby should be monitored for excessive sleepiness and weight gain.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Trioptal 300 Tablet may make you feel sleepy or dizzy, or may cause blurred vision, lack of muscle coordination, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose. This may affect your driving ability.
Kidney
CAUTION
Trioptal 300 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Trioptal 300 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
Trioptal 300 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Trioptal 300 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Dose adjustment is not recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease.

What if you miss a dose of Trioptal Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Trioptal 300 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. For how long do I need to take Trioptal. Can I stop taking it on my own?

You should take your medicine for the time and duration prescribed by your doctor. Trioptal helps to control your epilepsy but does not cure it. You must take this medicine every day, even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Trioptal or lower the dose yourself. Stopping your medicine suddenly or lowering the dose may cause seizures. Consult your doctor who will reduce the dose gradually before stopping it completely.

Q. Will the use of Trioptal affect my fertility?

Trioptal is not know to affect fertility in males or females. However, talk to your doctor if you are facing fertility issues while taking this medicine.

Q. Does Trioptal cause hair loss?

Hair loss is a common side effect of Trioptal but does not affect everyone. If there is substantial hair loss, consult your doctor.

Q. Who should not take Trioptal?

You should not take Trioptal if you are allergic to Trioptal, eslicarbazepine or to any of its components. It should also be avoided by pregnant women and women taking birth control pills. Also, people having severe liver or kidney disease and people with a psychiatric disorder should avoid taking Trioptal.
