How to use Soltus Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Soltus 100 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Soltus 100 Tablet is an atypical antipsychotic. It works by modulating the action of certain chemical messengers in the brain that affect thoughts.

Soltus 100 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Soltus 100 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
You may feel less alert, drowsy or sleepy while taking this medicine. This may affect your driving ability.
Kidney
CAUTION
Soltus 100 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Soltus 100 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Soltus 100 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.
Liver
Soltus 100 Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Soltus 100 Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Schizophrenia is a chronic problem caused by Neuro chemical disturbance in brain. It is characterised by fear, odd experiences and distorted thought pattern. Treatment is with antipsychotic medicines which may need to continue throughout life. Coping with a mental disorder as serious as schizophrenia can be challenging, both for the person with the condition and for friends and family. Here are some ways to cope: 1. Learn about schizophrenia. Education about the disorder can help motivate the person with the disease to stick to the treatment plan. Education can help friends and family understand the disorder and be more compassionate with the person who has it. 2. Join a support group. Support groups for people with schizophrenia can help them reach out to others facing similar challenges. Support groups may also help family and friends cope. 3. Stay focused on goals. Managing schizophrenia is an ongoing process. Keeping treatment goals in mind can help the person with schizophrenia stay motivated. Help your loved one remember to take responsibility for managing the illness and working toward goals. 4. Ask about social services assistance. These services may be able to assist with affordable counselling services, job placements and other daily activities. 5. Learn relaxation and stress management. The person with schizophrenia and loved ones may benefit from stress-reduction techniques such as meditation, yoga or tai chi. Please see a psychiatrist for further guidance.

Q. Does Soltus make you sleepy?

Yes, Soltus may make you sleepy, drowsy, less alert, and may even blur your vision. If you experience these symptoms you should not drive or operate heavy machinery.

Q. When should I take Soltus?

The time of taking the medicine will be suggested by your doctor depending upon your dose. Doses up to 300 mg can be taken anytime of the day but preferably at the same time each day. Doses more than 300 mg can be taken half in the morning and half in the evening. You can take the medicine during or between meals.

Q. What does Soltus do to the brain?

Soltus belongs to antipsychotic class of medicines. It acts against dopamine receptors in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter which helps in regulating mood and behavior. Schizophrenia is associated with an overactivity of dopamine in the brain, and this overactivity may cause delusions and hallucinations. Soltus prevents this excessive activity of dopamine in the brain which helps in treating symptoms of schizophrenia.

Q. Does Soltus help with anxiety?

No, there is no data to support the use of Soltus in the treatment of anxiety. On the contrary, anxiety is a common side effect of Soltus.

Q. Can I stop taking Soltus after some time?

No, you should keep taking Soltus as long as your doctor has advised. Do not stop the medication even if you feel better. Stopping it suddenly may worsen your condition or symptoms may come back. Talk to your doctor who will gradually reduce your dose.

Q. Who should not take Soltus?

You should not take Soltus if you are under 15 years of age, allergic to it, have breast cancer or a tumor known as prolactinoma. Avoid taking Soltus if you are breastfeeding, have tumor of adrenal glands (pheochromocytoma), or if you are taking certain medicines like levodopa, medicines to treat heart rhythm disorders, etc.

Q. Is Soltus addictive?

No, there is no evidence to say that Soltus causes addiction. Also, its use is not known to have any tendency for abuse.

Q. What are the withdrawal symptoms of Soltus?

Suddenly stopping Soltus may cause withdrawal symptoms which include nausea, vomiting, sweating, difficulty sleeping, extreme restlessness, muscle stiffness or abnormal movements, or your original condition may come back. Therefore, it is advised to gradually reduce the dose of Soltus.
