Q. Why is PPG used?

PPG is a medicine used to control the blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It decreases postprandial or postmeal rise in the levels of blood sugar by slowing down the digestion and conversion of complex carbohydrates (like starch) into simple sugars (monosaccharides). Thereby, decreasing the absorption of sugar from the intestine. This decreased absorption of sugar leads to decrease in blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes. This medication can also be used in patients who have prediabetes and are prone to develop diabetes in the future.
