Pentasa 1gm Enema is an anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat a type of bowel disease known as ulcerative colitis. It is used when the lining tissue of the inner rectum becomes inflamed (proctitis). It helps to reduce symptoms such as diarrhea, bleeding and stomach pain by reducing inflammation in the bowel.

Pentasa 1gm Enema is only for rectal route and should not be taken orally. It must be use under the supervision of a doctor or healthcare professional. Stay in a lying position for at least 15 minutes after the insertion of suppositories. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for but take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. The most common side effects of this medicine include rectal discomfort, rash, itching, and fever. If these symptoms bother you, do not go away or get worse, tell your doctor. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them.

How Pentasa Enema works

Pentasa 1gm Enema is an aminosalicylate. It works directly on the site of inflammation (swelling) in the lower parts of large intestine (colon and rectum) to provide rapid relief from attacks of ulcerative colitis. It suppresses the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause intestinal inflammation, thereby reducing ulceration, bleeding and painful symptoms.
