Uses of Osteofos Tablet

Osteofos 70mg Tablet is used in the treatment of osteoporosis
This disease mostly occurs in women after menopause, but can sometimes be seen in men. It can also occur in patients receiving steroids.

Side effects of Osteofos Tablet


Musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) pain, Headache, Heartburn, Difficulty in swallowing.


How to use Osteofos Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take Osteofos 70mg Tablet empty stomach (1 hour before food or 2 hours after food).

How Osteofos Tablet works

Osteofos 70mg tablet is a bisphosphonate. It acts by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, cells that cause the destruction of bone, thereby strengthening the bones and minimizing the risk of fractures.

Expert advice for Osteofos Tablet

  • Take Osteofos in the morning on an empty stomach with water.
  • Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after taking Osteofos.
  • Maintain an upright posture for 30 minutes after taking Osteofos.
  • Inform your doctor if you experience pain in jaw, throat, chest, abdomen, hips or thighs.
  • Inform your doctor if you are about to undergo any major dental procedures, as Osteofos may need to be discontinued temporarily.

Special precautions for Osteofos 70mg Tablet
It is generally safe to consume alcohol with Osteofos 70mg Tablet.
Osteofos 70mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Osteofos 70mg Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.

If you are taking Osteofos 70mg Tablet during breastfeeding, monitor baby's blood calcium levels during the first two months.
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Osteofos 70mg Tablet is not expected to have any effects but in rare cases, it may cause dizziness, severe muscle, joint and bone pain and eye pain or inflammation. This may affect your ability to drive.
Osteofos 70mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Osteofos 70mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Dose adjustment is not recommended in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease.
Osteofos 70mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients wit
h liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Osteofos 70mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Missed Dosageuses

If you miss a dose of Alendronic Acid, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Alendronic acid belongs to class of medications called bisphosphonates. It is not a steroid or vitamin D. It is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor
Q. Can I take ibuprofen/ paracetamol with alendronic acid?
Avoid taking alendronic acid with NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and paracetamol as it increases the gastrointestinal related side effects
Osteofos is not known to affect the teeth. However, bone damage in the jaw (osteonecrosis) generally associated with delayed healing and infection is known to occur following tooth extraction

Osteofos has a side effect of causing hair loss and tiredness. However, it is not known to cause cancer or increase in blood pressure. Consult your doctor if you experience such side effects.
