Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Ocotret 20mg Tablet is to be taken with food.

Ocotret 20mg Tablet works by slowing the production of certain natural substances that can cause acne.

Expert advice for Ocotret Tablet

  • Do not take isotretinoin, if you are allergic to isotretinoin, vitamin A or any other ingredients of the capsule.
  • Follow adequate contraceptive measures while on treatment with oral or topical isotretinoin.
  • Do not use if you are planning to become pregnant, already pregnant or breast feeding.
  • Women must use at least two methods of contraception while using isotretinoin to avoid becoming pregnant. Even men receiving isotretinoin must use contraception.
  • Do not take vitamin A supplements with isotretinoin.
  • Use sunscreen to protect skin from sunlight and UV rays (like sunlamps or tanning beds) while on isotretinoin treatment.
  • Do not use waxing for hair removal or do any dermabrasion or lazer skin treatments while on therapy with isotretinoin.
  • Do get your blood lipid levels, liver function, blood cell count and pregnancy test done before starting isotretinoin.
  • Do not donate blood till 30 days have passed after last capsule is taken.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Taking isotretinoin with alcohol may have unpleasant side effects such as fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under your skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting.
Pregnancy
CAUTION
Ocotret 20mg Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Human and animal studies have shown significant adverse effects on the foetus. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
UNSAFE
Ocotret 20mg Tablet is unsafe to use during lactation. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby, or the mother is suffering from a condition in which breastfeeding is not advisable.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Your night vision may get worse during your treatment. This can happen suddenly. Drowsiness and dizziness have been reported very rarely. This may affect your driving ability.
Kidney
Ocotret 20mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Ocotret 20mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
If you experience excessive tiredness, puffy eyes and difficulty in urination while taking this medicine, inform your doctor and stop the therapy.
Liver
UNSAFE
Ocotret 20mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use in patients with liver disease and should be avoided. Please consult your doctor.

If you miss a dose of Ocotret 20mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

There are no known drug-drug interactions between isotretinoin and ibuprofen/ creatinine/ vitamins other than Vitamin A/ Tylenol (paracetamol). However, vitamin A used in addition to isotretinoin can cause vitamin A toxicity. Tetracycline antibiotics and isotretinoin may lead to increase in pressure in the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Doctor's advice should be strictly followed about taking any medications along with isotretinoin
