Monotrate 40 Tablet is used in the treatment of chest pain (Angina).

How to use Monotrate Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Monotrate 40 Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.

How Monotrate Tablet works

Monotrate 40 Tablet is a nitrate. It reduces the workload of the heart. As a result, the heart muscle does not need as much blood and oxygen supply.

Pregnancy

Lactation
Monotrate 40 Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Monotrate 40 Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
SAFE
Monotrate 40 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Monotrate 40 Tablet is recommended.
However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease.
Liver
Monotrate 40 Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Monotrate 40 Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Monotrate Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Monotrate 40 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • Do not swallow, suck or chew the tablet. Place it under the tongue and allow it to dissolve slowly.
  • Eat healthy (low-fat, high-fibre, low-sodium diet), quit smoking, increase your physical activity, watch your weight, and reduce stress.
  • Monotrate 40 Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not consume alcohol while taking Monotrate 40 Tablet as it may cause increased dizziness.
  • It may cause headaches but usually goes away after a few days of continued treatment. Inform your doctor if it persists.
  • You may develop tolerance to Monotrate 40 Tablet with time, meaning that the same dose may be less effective next time. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule to avoid this.

Monotrate does not cause erectile dysfunction but should not be used with the drugs such as Viagra used to treat ED. Low blood pressure is a common side effect of Monotrate. Hair loss is not common, but may occur in some especially in older (60+) females
