Metoz 5 Tablet

Overview

Introduction

Metoz 5 Tablet is a type of diuretic (water pill). This medicine reduces excess fluid levels in the body and is used to treat edema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney, or lung disease. It is also used in treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).

Metoz 5 Tablet makes you lose excess water through urine. This medicine should be taken only during day time to avoid frequent urination at night. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines and is effective even in kidney failure. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes is important while using this medicine. Dizziness and headache may occur as side effects initially, but these improve with time.

How to use Metoz Tablet

How Metoz Tablet works

Metoz 5 Tablet is a thiazide diuretic. It lowers blood pressure and fluid retention in edema by removing the extra water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time it also works by relaxing blood vessels and improving blood flow.

Metoz 5 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving

Metoz 5 Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
As Metoz 5 Tablet may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness and this may affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Metoz 5 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Metoz 5 Tablet is recommended.
Liver
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
There is limited information available on the use of Metoz 5 Tablet in patients with liver disease. Please consult your doctor.

What if you forget to take Metoz Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Metoz 5 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Quick Tips

  • It makes you feel dizzy. Avoid driving and attention requiring activity until you know how it affects you.
  • Avoid alcohol intake while taking Metoz 5 Tablet as it may increase the dizziness. 
  • It may cause a sudden drop of sodium level in blood. Avoid low sodium diet while you are taking this medication.

Meltolan is olanzapine. Check if the salt in Metoz is same. Sometimes the additives in pills are u pleasant, in which case, take the formulation that suits you. Other accepted formulations are Oleanz, Oliza, Olimelt

Both Metoz and Torasemide are diuretics and both can lower the blood potassium levels (hypokalemia). When given together, hypokalemia can be severe, causing muscle pains or cramps, loss of appetite, weakness, dizziness, or confusion. Inform your doctor if you have these symptoms and you are taking both the drugs. Take foods rich in potassium like orange or other citrus fruit juices or take a potassium supplement.
