How to use Metalgin Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Metalgin 500 mg Tablet is to be taken with food.

How Metalgin Tablet works

Metalgin 500 mg Tablet is an analgesic (pain reliever) and anti-pyretic (fever reducer). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and fever.

Metalgin Tablet related warnings

Alcohol
CAUTION
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Metalgin 500 mg Tablet. Taking Paracetamol/Acetaminophen with alcohol can cause liver damage.
Pregnancy
SAFE
Metalgin 500 mg Tablet is safe to use during pregnancy.
Adequate and well-controlled human studies have shown low or no risk.
Lactation
SAFE
Metalgin 500 mg Tablet is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
SAFE
Metalgin 500 mg Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Metalgin 500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Metalgin 500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, Metalgin 500 mg Tablet contains paracetamol which is considered the safest painkiller for kidney disease patients.
Liver
CAUTION
Metalgin 500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Metalgin 500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, the use of Metalgin 500 mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.

FAQs

Q. What if my child vomits after taking Metalgin?

If your child vomits in less than 30 minutes after having a dose of Metalgin tablets or syrup, give him/her the same dose again. If your child vomits more than 30 minutes after a dose of tablets or syrup, you do not need to give him/her another dose, until the next normal dose.

Q. When will my child feel better after taking Metalgin?

Usually your child will feel better after about half an hour of taking Metalgin.

Q. How often can I give Metalgin to my child?

You should only give four doses of Metalgin in 24 hours. There should be a gap of at least 4 hours between two doses. Do not give Metalgin for more than 3 days to your child without first talking to your doctor.

Q. Can I give Metalgin syrup to my child for cold?

Metalgin along with relieving fever also helps in controlling problems associated with cold such as headache and earache associated with cold. However, it does help relieve stuffy nose and cough for which doctor’s advice is required.

Q. Does Metalgin make babies sleepy?

No, Metalgin does not make babies sleepy, contrary to the common belief.

Q. Is Metalgin safe for children?

If used as directed by the physician, Metalgin is safe for children.

Q. Is Metalgin an antibiotic?

No, Metalgin is not an antibiotic. It works as a painkiller and as a medicine which brings down high fever.

Q. Can I give my child Metalgin and ibuprofen together?

Ibuprofen and Metalgin are safe painkillers which can be given to children, though both should not be used together. Instead, if you have given your child Metalgin and still he/she is feverish or in pain you could try ibuprofen instead, when the next dose is due.
