How to use Calpol Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Calpol 500 mg Tablet is to be taken with food.

How Calpol Tablet works

Calpol 500 mg Tablet is an analgesic (pain reliever) and anti-pyretic (fever reducer). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and fever.

Calpol Tablet related warnings

Alcohol
CAUTION
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Calpol 500 mg Tablet. Taking Paracetamol/Acetaminophen with alcohol can cause liver damage.
Pregnancy
SAFE
Calpol 500 mg Tablet is safe to use during pregnancy.
Adequate and well-controlled human studies have shown low or no risk.
Lactation
SAFE
Calpol 500 mg Tablet is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
SAFE
Calpol 500 mg Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Calpol 500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Calpol 500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, Calpol 500 mg Tablet contains paracetamol which is considered the safest painkiller for kidney disease patients.
Liver
CAUTION
Calpol 500 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Calpol 500 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, the use of Calpol 500 mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.

Monitor temperature of Patient. If Patient has fever place a cool, damp washcloth on your child's forehead. Give your Patient a lukewarm tub bath or a sponge bath. Give a sponge bath as follows: - ? Use lukewarm water [90?F (32.2?C) to 95?F (35?C)]. Do not use cold water, ice, or rubbing alcohol, which will lower the child's body temperature too quickly. ? Sponge for 20 to 30 minutes. ? Stop if the child starts to shiver. If your child doesn't like the sponge bath or doesn't feel better after the bath, there is no need to give another one. You can use paracetamol also along with above measures to control fever till you consult Dr. will determine underlying disorders by clinical examination which range from mild conditions to the most serious of bacterial and viral illnesses and will prescribe medicines accordingly.

FAQs

Q. What if my child vomits after taking Calpol?

If your child vomits in less than 30 minutes after having a dose of Calpol tablets or syrup, give him/her the same dose again. If your child vomits more than 30 minutes after a dose of tablets or syrup, you do not need to give him/her another dose, until the next normal dose.

Q. When will my child feel better after taking Calpol?

Usually your child will feel better after about half an hour of taking Calpol.

Q. How often can I give Calpol to my child?

You should only give four doses of Calpol in 24 hours. There should be a gap of at least 4 hours between two doses. Do not give Calpol for more than 3 days to your child without first talking to your doctor.

Q. Can I give Calpol syrup to my child for cold?

Calpol along with relieving fever also helps in controlling problems associated with cold such as headache and earache associated with cold. However, it does help relieve stuffy nose and cough for which doctor’s advice is required.

Q. Does Calpol make babies sleepy?

No, Calpol does not make babies sleepy, contrary to the common belief.

Q. Is Calpol safe for children?

If used as directed by the physician, Calpol is safe for children.

Q. Is Calpol an antibiotic?

No, Calpol is not an antibiotic. It works as a painkiller and as a medicine which brings down high fever.

Q. Can I give my child Calpol and ibuprofen together?

Ibuprofen and Calpol are safe painkillers which can be given to children, though both should not be used together. Instead, if you have given your child Calpol and still he/she is feverish or in pain you could try ibuprofen instead, when the next dose is due.
