Introduction of Algina Syrup

Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup is a medicine used to relieve pain and to reduce high temperature and fever. It is used to treat many conditions such as headache, period pain, toothache, colds, and fevers. It is also an ingredient in many cold and flu remedies.

Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup may be prescribed alone or in combination with another medicine. You should take it regularly as advised by your doctor. It is usually best taken with food otherwise it may upset your stomach. Do not take more or use it for longer than recommended.

It very rarely causes side effects if it is used correctly but this medicine may cause stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting in some people. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects bother you or do not go away.

This medicine is widely prescribed and considered safe but is not suitable for everybody. Before taking it, let your doctor know if you have liver or kidney problems or are using blood-thinning medicines or drink a lot of alcohol. It may affect the dose or suitability of this medicine. How Algina Syrup works

Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup is an analgesic (pain reliever) and anti-pyretic (fever reducer). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and fever.

Kidney
CAUTION

However, Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup contains paracetamol which is considered the safest painkiller for kidney disease patients.
Liver
CAUTION
Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
However, the use of Algina 125 mg/5ml Syrup is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease and active liver disease.

Q. What if my child vomits after taking Algina?

If your child vomits in less than 30 minutes after having a dose of Algina tablets or syrup, give him/her the same dose again. If your child vomits more than 30 minutes after a dose of tablets or syrup, you do not need to give him/her another dose, until the next normal dose.

Q. When will my child feel better after taking Algina?

Usually your child will feel better after about half an hour of taking Algina.

Q. How often can I give Algina to my child?

You should only give four doses of Algina in 24 hours. There should be a gap of at least 4 hours between two doses. Do not give Algina for more than 3 days to your child without first talking to your doctor.

Q. Can I give Algina syrup to my child for cold?

Algina along with relieving fever also helps in controlling problems associated with cold such as headache and earache associated with cold. However, it does help relieve stuffy nose and cough for which doctor’s advice is required.

Q. Does Algina make babies sleepy?

No, Algina does not make babies sleepy, contrary to the common belief.

Q. Is Algina safe for children?

If used as directed by the physician, Algina is safe for children.

Q. Is Algina an antibiotic?

No, Algina is not an antibiotic. It works as a painkiller and as a medicine which brings down high fever.

Q. Can I give my child Algina and ibuprofen together?

Ibuprofen and Algina are safe painkillers which can be given to children, though both should not be used together. Instead, if you have given your child Algina and still he/she is feverish or in pain you could try ibuprofen instead, when the next dose is due.
