  • Drink some Karela (bitter gourd juice) on an empty stomach each morning.. Follow this treatment daily for at least two months.


  • Powdered Dalcheeni (cinnamon) has the ability to lower blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin activity.
  • Mix one-half to one teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup of warm water. Drink it daily.


  • Fenugreek (Methi) can also be used to control diabetes, improve glucose tolerance and lower blood sugar levels due to its hypoglycemic activity
  • Soak two tablespoons of methi seeds in water overnight. Drink the water along with the seeds in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • You can also eat two tablespoons of powdered methi seeds daily with milk.


  • Take two to three Amlas , remove the seeds and grind them into a fine paste. Put the paste in a cloth and squeeze out the juice.
  • Mix two tablespoon of the juice in one cup of water and drink it daily on an empty stomach.
  • You can also mix one tablespoon of amla juice in a cup of karela juice and drink it daily for a few months.


  • Whenever black plum (Jamun) is available in the market, try to include it in your diet as it can be very effective for the pancreas.
  • You can make a powder of dried seeds of jamun fruit and eat this powder with water twice a day..

Curry leaves

  • You can chew about 10 fresh curry leaves daily in the morning. Continue this treatment for three to four months. It also helps reduce high cholesterol levels and obesity.


  • Cut off the ends of a few ladies finger (okras/bhindi) and prick them in several places using a fork. Soak the okras in a glass of water overnight. In the morning, discard the okras and drink the water on an empty stomach. Do this daily for several weeks.

    I don’t know about all of the above but I have tried the Cinnamon and it works very well. I reduced my fasting blood sugar from 236 to 136 in 6 weeks. Of course, it was also accompanied by 20 minutes of brisk walk every day and giving up on white rice and substituting different types of millets for white rice.

    I am not sure how much of this information is backed up by peer reviewed research and how much is anecdotal. I am surprised that garlic is missing from the list even though it has been proven to act as hypoglycaemic agent in multiple controlled studies. For everything else in the list, the evidence of effectiveness is patchey and at best anecdotal
