Valcris 450mg Tablet is used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the retina (retinitis) in adult patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is also used for the prevention of CMV infection in patients who have received an organ transplant from a CMV-infected donor.

Product introduction

Valcris 450mg Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It should be taken with food. You should drink plenty of water while on treatment with this medicine, as it helps prevent dehydration and kidney damage.


Valcris 450mg Tablet may cause a few common side effects like diarrhea, vomiting, anemia, low white blood cells, low platelet levels, insomnia, and vomiting. Inform your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration.

Cytomegalovirus infection is a common virus infection which may have no symptoms at all or may have symptoms like fever and fatigue. Severe infection may show symptoms involving the eyes, brain, or other internal organs. This virus is spread through sexual and nonsexual contact with body secretions in people who are immunocompromised or those who have undergone any transplant. Valcris 450mg Tablet helps to prevent multiplication of the infection causing virus and treats the infection. Keep taking it in the dose and duration prescribed by the doctor to get maximum benefit.

Valcris 450mg Tablet is an antiviral medication. It prevents the multiplication of viruses in human cells. This stops the virus from producing new viruses and clears up your infection.

  • Take Valcris 450mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor to effectively control CMV retinitis and prevent the worsening of the infection.
  • Regular blood tests may be required to monitor your blood cell counts, as Valcris 450mg Tablet can cause low white blood cells (leukopenia) and low platelets (thrombocytopenia).
  • Inform your doctor if you experience unusual bleeding, persistent fever, vision changes, or severe fatigue, as these may indicate serious side effects.
  • Use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 90 days after stopping the medication, as Valcris 450mg Tablet may cause birth defects.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Valcris with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Tacrolimus (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your tacrolimus levels, potassium levels and kidney function closely. They may adjust the doses as per the observations.

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Oral Route)

Concurrent use may increase the risk of kidney damage.

Amphotericin B (Injection Route)

If concurrent use is essential, please consult your doctor. They may monitor your kidney's functioning closely. Amphotericin B may slow down the removal of Valganciclovir from the body.

Valcris 450mg Tablet is used for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the retina (retinitis) in adult patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). After being taken orally, Valcris 450mg Tablet gets converted into ganciclovir by liver and intestinal enzymes, which then prevents the growth and spread of cytomegalovirus.
