How to use Temsunol Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Temsunol Tablet is to be taken with food.
Tamsulosin must be taken after breakfast or the first meal of the day.

How Temsunol Tablet works

Temsunol Tablet is an alpha blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles around the bladder exit and prostate gland so urine is passed more easily. This helps empty the bladder completely and reduces the need to pass urine frequently or urgently in BPH.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Taking tamsulosin with alcohol may lower your blood pressure. This can cause dizziness or feeling like you might pass out, especially when getting up from a sitting or lying position.
Pregnancy
PROBABLY SAFE
Temsunol Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Temsunol Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
SAFE
Temsunol Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
SAFE
Temsunol Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Temsunol Tablet is recommended.
However, limited information is available on the use of Temsunol Tablet in patients with end stage kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
Temsunol Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Temsunol Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Temsunol Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Temsunol Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. When does Temsunol start to work?

An improvement in urine flow can be seen in 4 to 8 hours after taking Temsunol. However, it may take 2 to 4 weeks for the full effect to come.

Q. Can I take Temsunol with vitamin D?

Yes, Temsunol can be taken with vitamin D. No harmful effects or any interactions have been reported when these are used together.

Q. How does Temsunol help in removal of kidney stones?

In patient with kidney stones, Temsunol helps in removal of stones via urine. It works by relaxing the muscles of the urinary tract which causes an easy removal of the stones.Use of Temsunol in kidney stones also decreases the need for painkillers.

Q. Why does Temsunol cause dizziness?

Temsunol causes peripheral blood vessel dilatation and pooling of blood in the extremities causing fall in blood pressure on sudden change in posture from lying down to sitting or standing. This makes patient experience dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, spinning sensation, and vertigo.

Q. Why should I stop taking Temsunol before my cataract surgery?

Temsunol can cause floppy eye syndrome in which the muscles of the iris become floppy and the pupil constricts unexpectedly during cataract surgery. So, when the eye surgeon actually needs a dilated pupil, it will constrict and restrict the field of surgery, and can affect the surgical outcomes.

Q. Why does Temsunol cause stuffy nose?

Temsunol relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels and this vasodilation of the blood vessels can cause a stuffy nose.

Q. Can the use of Temsunol increase blood sugar levels?

Use of Temsunol does not increase your blood sugar levels. If you notice any change in the blood sugar levels while taking it, consult your doctor as this could be due to some condition which needs attention.

Q. Apart from taking medicines, what should I do to manage my prostate symptoms?

Simple lifestyle changes can help you manage your symptoms better. Try to urinate when you first get the urge. However, take care not to strain or push to empty your bladder. Avoid drinking fluids (especially alcohol, caffeine) a few hours before bedtime or going out. Also, you should not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor because some medicines can increase your urge to urinate.

Temsunol can be taken with ibuprofen or paracetamol. No harmful side effects or other interactions have been seen when they are taken together.
