Overview

Introduction of Tamsukem Tablet

Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It helps to empty the bladder completely and reduces the need to pass urine frequently or urgently. However, it does not decrease the size of the prostate.

Always take this medicine exactly as advised by your doctor. It should be taken orally with food. You should finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. But, before taking it, inform doctor if your suffering from any liver or kidney disease. If you have to undergo an eye surgery due to cataract or glaucoma than inform your eye doctor about the usage of this medicine.

It is usually well tolerated. However, it may produce some mild side effects such as dizziness, so avoid driving or doing things that need mental focus. Simple lifestyle changes can help you manage your symptoms better. Try to urinate as soon as you feel the urge. However, take care not to strain or push to empty your bladder. You should avoid drinking fluids (especially alcohol, caffeine) a few hours before going to bed or going out.

How to use Tamsukem Tablet

Take Tamsulosin 30-60 minutes after the same meal each day.

How Tamsukem Tablet works

Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is an alpha blocker. It works by relaxing the muscles around the bladder exit and prostate gland so urine is passed more easily. This helps empty the bladder completely and reduces the need to pass urine frequently or urgently in BPH.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet Taking tamsulosin with alcohol may lower your blood pressure. This can cause dizziness or feeling like you might pass out, especially when getting up from a sitting or lying position.
Pregnancy
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
Lactation
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR
Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Driving

Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet is recommended.
However, limited information is available on the use of Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet in patients with end stage kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
CAUTION
Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Tamsukem Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Tamsukem 0.4 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. What is the best time to take Tamsukem?

You can take the capsule after breakfast or after the first meal of the day. However, some doctors prefer it to be taken at night time after dinner. You should take it approximately 30 minutes following the same meal every day. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not open, crush or chew the medicine.

Q. Can the use of Tamsukem increase blood sugar levels?

Use of Tamsukem does not increase your blood sugar levels. If you notice any change in the blood sugar levels while taking it, consult your doctor as this could be due to some condition which needs attention.

Q. Why does Tamsukem cause dizziness?

Tamsukem dilates the blood vessels and leads to the accumulation of blood in the extremities (ends of the arms and limbs). This restrains the proper flow of blood to the brain, thereby causing the blood pressure to fall on the sudden change in posture. As a result, the patient may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, spinning sensation, and vertigo.

Q. Why should I stop taking Tamsukem before my cataract surgery?

Tamsukem can cause floppy eye syndrome in which the muscles of the iris become floppy and the pupil constricts unexpectedly during cataract surgery. So, when the eye surgeon actually needs a dilated pupil, it will constrict and restrict the field of surgery, and can affect the surgical outcomes.

Q. Why does Tamsukem cause stuffy nose?

Tamsukem relaxes the smooth muscles of the blood vessels and this vasodilation of the blood vessels can cause a stuffy nose.

Q. Is Tamsukem anticholinergic?

No, Tamsukem is not an anticholinergic medication. It is a medicine that acts by relaxing the muscles in the prostate gland and neck of the urinary bladder, improving the urine flow in patients with benign enlargement of the prostate gland. Taking anticholinergic drugs in this condition or while taking Tamsukem can increase the symptoms and worsen the condition.

Q. Can Tamsukem cause frequent urination?

No, Tamsukem does not cause frequent urination. In fact, this medicine increases the urine flow and decreases the urge to urinate frequently, which is a symptom of benign enlargement of the prostate gland. This condition also leads to a weak stream while urinating and hence the patient is not able to empty the bladder completely. Tamsukem is used to treat all such symptoms related to urine flow in patients with benign enlargement of the prostate gland.

Q. What are the long-term effects of taking Tamsukem?

Usually Tamsukem does not cause any side effects in patients with benign enlargement of the prostate gland. However, long-term use of Tamsukem may increase the chances of having infection, rhinitis, pain, and pharyngitis. Its long-term use may also cause abnormal ejaculation, blackouts, faintness, lightheadedness, dizziness, and decreased blood pressure.

Q. Apart from taking medicines, what should I do to manage my prostate symptoms?

Simple lifestyle changes can help you manage your symptoms better. Try to urinate when you first get the urge. However, take care not to strain or push to empty your bladder. Avoid drinking fluids (especially alcohol, caffeine) a few hours before bedtime or going out. Also, you should not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor because some medicines can increase your urge to urinate.

Q. Can I take Tamsukem with ibuprofen or paracetamol?

Tamsukem can be taken with ibuprofen or paracetamol. No harmful side effects or other interactions have been seen when they are taken together.
