How to use Serta Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Serta 50 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Serta Tablet works

Serta 50 Tablet is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms in depression and relieves symptoms of panic and obsessive disorders.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Serta 50 Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness and calmness with alcohol.
Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Serta 50 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Serta 50 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Serta 50 Tablet may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
SAFE
Serta 50 Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Serta 50 Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have an underlying kidney disease as you may be given a smaller dose initially and then increased slowly as required.
Liver
CAUTION
Serta 50 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Serta 50 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Serta 50 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

What if you miss a dose of Serta Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Serta 50 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is Serta addictive?

Serta is not addictive. However, sudden discontinuation or decrease in dose of Serta may cause effects like dizziness, numbness, sleep disturbances, agitation or anxiety, headaches, nausea, vomiting and shaking. Patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding its use and discontinuation

Q. Can I take sertraline with diazepam/ Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine)/ alcohol/ Tylenol (paracetamol)/ mirtazapine/ amoxicillin/ Nyquil (acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, doxylamine)/ Co codamol (paracetamol and codeine)/ ibuprofen?

With tramadol there is an increased risk of hypertension, amitriptyline may possibly change the blood levels of fluoxetine, and alcohol may alter the effect of fluoxetine. No clinically observed drug interaction has been reported with diazepam, Co codamol, Nyquil, ibuprofen and mirtazapine. Please consult your doctor when using concomitantly
