Introduction of Rivamer Capsule

Rivamer 6 mg Capsule is used to treat mild to moderate dementia in Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive illness which gradually affects memory and thinking. It is also used to treat Parkinson’s disease. It does not cure these illnesses but may help improve memory, awareness and other symptoms.

Your doctor will explain how to take Rivamer 6 mg Capsule and give you the one most suitable for you. Follow the instructions carefully to get the most benefit. The dose may change from time to time to suit your individual needs. You may take it with food, preferably at night before going to bed. It can take up to few weeks for symptoms to improve so keep taking your medicine regularly. You should not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor.

Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, vomiting and indigestion. Some people may experience dizziness, restlessness and anxious. You may have side effects more often when you start your treatment or when your dose is increased. Usually, the side effects will slowly go away as your body gets used to the Rivamer 6 mg Capsule. If they are severe or will not go away, you should  contact your doctor.

Before using Rivamer 6 mg Capsule, you should tell your doctor if you’ve ever had heart problems, stomach ulcer, epilepsy or asthma. It may also affect, or be affected by, some other drugs you are using so let your doctor know what these are to be safe. During pregnancy this medicine should only be taken if it is advised.

How Rivamer Capsule works

Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain. Rivamer 6 mg Capsule is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking.

Lactation

Rivamer 6 mg Capsule is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Driving

Rivamer 6 mg Capsule may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Rivamer 6 mg Capsule is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Rivamer 6 mg Capsule is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have underlying kidney diseases as close monitoring is advised while you are taking this medicine.
Liver

What if you miss a dose of Rivamer Capsule?

If you miss a dose of Rivamer 6 mg Capsule, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. How long does Rivamer take to work?

Rivamer may take as long as 12 weeks to begin working. Response to the medicine differs from person to person. The clinical benefits of Rivamer should be assessed regularly. If after 12 weeks of treatment the symptoms do not improve, Rivamer should be stopped.

Q. How should Rivamer be taken?

Always take the medicine as directed by your doctor. Usually Rivamer is prescribed to be taken twice a day, in the morning and evening, with food. Swallow the whole capsule with water and do not open or crush the capsule. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Q. Is it okay to take antacids while taking Rivamer?

Yes, antacids can be taken while taking Rivamer as they do not interfere with the working of Rivamer. Moreover, Rivamer may cause increased acid secretion in the stomach in some patients. Your doctor may prescribe an antacid to relieve this acidity.

Q. What will happen if I take more than the recommended doses of Rivamer?

Taking more than the recommended doses of Rivamer may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, tremor, headache, sleepiness, hallucinations, and malaise. Higher doses may also cause confusion, increased sweating, and increase in blood pressure. In case you take an overdose of Rivamer, seek immediate medical attention.

Q. Does Rivamer cause drowsiness?

Yes, Rivamer can cause drowsiness or sleepiness, especially at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose. If you feel dizzy or sleepy, do not drive, use machines or perform any tasks that require your attention.

Q. Can I stop taking Rivamer?

You should not stop or change the dose of Rivamer without consulting your doctor. However, if treatment is interrupted for more than three days, then do not take the medicine and consult your doctor. The doctor will re-initiate the treatment with a low dose twice a day. The dose can then be increased gradually as was done previously.

Q. Can Rivamer cause hallucinations?

Yes, Rivamer can cause hallucinations. However, hallucinations are reported very rarely with the use of Rivamer, which means they occur in very few people. It may usually occur shortly after dose increase.
