Uses of Riax Tablet

Riax 2.5 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is used in addition to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Common

Side Effects of Riax are Headache, Upper respiratory tract infection, Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar level) in combination with insulin or sulphonylurea, Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages).

How to use Riax Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Riax 2.5 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Riax Tablet works

Riax 2.5 mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medication. It works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood sugar levels. This reduces the fasting and postmeal sugar levels.

  • Riax 2.5 mg Tablet is used alone or  together with other diabetes medicines to control blood sugar and avoids long-term complications.
  • You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines (if prescribed) along with Riax 2.5 mg Tablet.
  • It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Monitor your blood sugar level regularly while you are taking this medicine. 
  • Chances of weight gain and low blood sugar are lesser as compared to other diabetes medicines.
  • Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxious feeling.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice joint pains or develop symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting.
  • Take it at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Taking alcohol together with saxagliptin may affect blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
Pregnancy
PROBABLY SAFE
Riax 2.5 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Riax 2.5 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is low or high. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Riax 2.5 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Riax 2.5 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is recommended for dose adjustment.
Liver
Riax 2.5 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Riax 2.5 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
No dose adjustment is recommended for patients with mild to moderate liver disease.
