Product introduction

Rapamune 1mg Tablet must be taken in a dose and duration as per the prescription. It can be taken with or without food but make sure to take it at about the same time every day. An overdose of this medicine may have serious side effects on the body.

Common side effects of this medicine include edema, increased blood lipid level, high blood pressure, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, fever, urinary tract infection, anemia, nausea, joint pain, and thrombocytopenia. If any of the side effects persist or bother you, consult the doctor immediately. Inform the doctor immediately if you experience any allergic reactions such as rash, shortness of breath, coughing, swelling, etc.

Before taking this medicine, it is important to consult your doctor if you have any ongoing medication for any underlying disease. Pregnant and breastfeeding women must inform the doctor prior to the initiation of this treatment. During the treatment, your doctor may advise you for some laboratory tests to know the effects of the medicine in the body. If you notice signs of infection, any changes in the appearance or size of a mole, unusual growths or lumps, or unusual tiredness or weakness during the treatment, you must consult the doctor immediately.

Rapamune 1mg Tablet is an immunosuppressant. It works by suppressing your body’s immune response following transplant of an organ (eg. liver, kidney, heart). This helps your body to accept the new organ as if it were your own.

  • Rapamune 1mg Tablet is used to prevent organ rejection following a kidney transplant operation.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice while you are on treatment with this medicine. This is because a chemical in grapefruit juice increases the amount of Rapamune 1mg Tablet in your bloodstream. This makes side-effects more likely.
  • There is a possibility of a slight increase in the risk of skin cancer with Rapamune 1mg Tablet. Do not use sunbeds, and avoid strong sunlight or use a sun cream with a high sun protection factor (SPF of at least 15).
  • If you have diabetes mellitus, this medicine may affect your blood sugar levels. Monitor your sugar level regularly and report any extreme changes to your doctor.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Rapamune with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects
Life-threatening

Herpes Zoster / Shingles Vaccine (Recombinant, Adjuvanted) (Injection Route)

Herpes Zoster / Shingles Vaccine (Recombinant, Adjuvanted) should not be used while undergoing treatment with Sirolimus or for up to 6 months after stopping Sirolimus.
Life-threatening

Natalizumab (Injection Route)

Do not consume Natalizumab with Sirolimus.
Severe

Carbamazepine (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sirolimus with Carbamazepine. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Carbamazepine may reduce blood levels of Sirolimus.

Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated) (Oral Route)

Cholera Vaccine (Inactivated) should not be used while undergoing treatment with Sirolimus or for up to 6 months after stopping Sirolimus.
