How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Increased risk of infection
If you have a low level of white blood cells, you are more likely to get infections. There are several ways to reduce your chances of catching or spreading an infection. Avoid unnecessary exposure to germs when you can. Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap or use a sanitiser. Avoid crowds and avoid contact with people who are ill or have infections. Use disposable tissues for coughs and sneezes. Consider using an appropriate face mask. Do not share personal items like cutlery, glasses, towels or toothbrushes with others. Get enough rest and eat a well balanced healthy diet.
  • Coping with Mouth ulcer
Avoiding things that irritate your ulcer will help speed up the healing process, reduce pain, and reduce its chances of coming back. Keep your mouth hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and clean by rinsing it regularly with warm and slightly salted water. Eat softer foods and drink cold drinks through a straw. Try to avoid foods that are very hot, spicy, sour (acidic) or salty and rough, crunchy foods like potato chips or toast. Do not use chewing gum and do not smoke or drink alcohol. Keep your mouth clean using a soft-bristled toothbrush and get regular dental check-ups. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve or lasts more than a few days.
  • Coping with Vomiting
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.

There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Upset stomach
Try taking your medicine with a meal or snack, or shortly after eating. It might help to eat smaller and more frequent meals, and to eat and drink slowly. Avoid foods which can irritate your stomach such as carbonated soft drinks, caffeine, fatty and spicy foods, mints and citrus fruits. Quit smoking and alcohol because they increase the symptoms. Do not eat for 3 or 4 hours before going to bed. Try raising the head of your bed at night or use extra pillows. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about medicines that may help, such as antacids, if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Protein in urine
You may only know this after having a urine test. Your doctor may want to monitor you regularly if this happens. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating foods that are low in sodium, potassium, magnesium and protein may be helpful. Increase your intake of fresh vegetables and fiber. It is advisable to keep your blood sugar levels and blood pressure under control.

How to use Siromus Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Siromus 1mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Siromus Tablet works

Siromus 1mg Tablet is an immunosuppressant. It works by suppressing your body’s immune response following transplant of an organ (eg. liver, kidney, heart). This helps your body to accept the new organ as if it were your own.

Quick Tips

  • You may be frequently monitored for renal function during concomitant administration of sirolimus and ciclosporin.
  • Sirolimus increase risk of infection and the risk of developing certain types of cancer (e.g., lymphoma, skin cancer). Seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs of infection (e.g., persistent sore throat, chills, and fever), any changes in the appearance or size of a mole, night sweats, unusual growths or lumps, or unusual tiredness or weakness.
  • Avoid use of live vaccines during treatment as the vaccination may be less effective when taking sirolimus.
  • Use effective methods of contraception during sirolimus therapy and for 12 weeks after sirolimus has been stopped.
  • Consult your doctor if you develop any liver problems, kidney problems, high cholesterol or triglycerides, low blood platelet levels, diabetes or high blood sugar, or lung or breathing problems or if you are considered to be at high risk for rejection, such as if you had a previous transplant that was lost to rejection.
  • Limit the exposure to sunlight and UV light by covering your skin with clothing and using a sunscreen with a high protection factor because of the increased risk for skin cancer, when receiving sirolimus.
  • Take sirolimus at the same time in relation to ciclosporin, and consistently with or without food, as its blood levels will be monitored.
