Introduction of Parox Tablet CR

Parox 25 mg Tablet CR is a medicine used in the treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobia, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It helps by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms of the disease.

Parox 25 mg Tablet CR is taken by mouth with or without food. It is advisable to take it at a fixed time each day to maintain consistent level of medicine in the blood. In case you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Never skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly without talking to doctor as may result in stomach upset, flu-like withdrawal symptoms and sleep disturbance.

Some common side effects of this medicine includes low sexual desire, nausea, headache, delayed ejaculation, and insomnia (difficulty in sleeping). Initially, this medicine may cause sudden drop in the blood pressure when you change positions, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It may even cause dizziness and sleepiness, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. This medicine may cause weight gain, you should have a balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Parox 25 mg Tablet CR is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms in depression and relieves symptoms of panic and obsessive disorders.

It's a neurochemical disturbance in brain and worsens due to stressful environment. OCD is typically treated with medication, psychotherapy or a combination of the two.
Sir I am ocd patient and on medication for 2 years. Medication has reduced my symptoms upto 70%. I take 25mg paroxetine twice daily and 100mg quetiapine thrice daily. Sir please tell me how long I should continue medication and how to lower dose to discontinuation. I will be much greatful to you.

Q. After how many days of taking Parox will I start feeling better?

You may start to see an improvement in your symptoms after 1-2 weeks of starting the treatment. In case you do not see any improvement, do not stop the medicine and consult your doctor. It may take around 4-6 weeks to see the full benefits of the medicine.

Q. I feel that my symptoms have worsened after having started taking Parox. Can I stop it on my own or do I need to consult the doctor?

No, do not stop taking Parox abruptly, without consulting your doctor. This is a common problem with Parox that initially you may feel that your symptoms have worsened but the benefits start appearing after 1-2 weeks. If the worsening does not improve even after 1-2 weeks, you must consult your doctor.

Q. Can Parox affect my sex life?

Yes, Parox use may affect your sex life. It can cause decreased sexual desire and inability to reach orgasm in both men and women. Additionally, men may even experience abnormal erection and ejaculation.

Q. What is the effect of Parox on children?

Parox should not be used in children under 18 years of age. The reason being, patients under 18 have an increased risk of experiencing side effects such as suicidal thoughts, aggression, oppositional behavior and anger when they take Parox. If your doctor has prescribed Parox for your child and you are worried about these side effects, discuss it with your doctor.

Q. I have been taking tamoxifen for breast cancer. Can I take Parox with it?

No, you should not take Parox if you are receiving tamoxifen. Tamoxifen often causes hot flashes (episodes of feeling extremely hot), which can be treated with Parox. But Parox may reduce the effectiveness of tamoxifen and can lead to recurrence of breast cancer.

Q. Do I need to be careful while taking Parox if I am a diabetic?

Yes, you need to be careful while taking this medicine if you are a diabetic. Parox may alter your blood sugar levels and your dose of insulin or antidiabetic medicines may need adjustment. Talk to your doctor regarding this and keep a regular check on your blood sugar levels.
