Okamet 500 mg tablet is an antidiabetic medicine that helps to control blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How it works

Okamet 500 mg tablet belongs to class of medications called antidiabetics.It decreases the amount of glucose absorbed from the food and the amount ofglucose made by liver. Okamet 500 mg tablet also increases the body's response to insulin(a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood).

  • Take the medicine with food to avoid upset stomach.
  • Check your blood sugar regularly.
  • Do not take metformin in severe diarrhoea or vomiting, or when starting antihypertensive or diuretic therapy or therapy with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
  • This medication may cause lactic acidosis (a build-up of lactic acid in the body, which can be fatal).
  • Lactic acidosis can start slowly and get worse over time.
