Motivyst Tablet can be taken before a meal, but you should try to take it at the same time every day. The dose will be decided by your doctor. Do not stop taking it without asking your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor.

The most common side effects of this medicine include fungal infection of the vagina, urinary tract infection, and frequent urge to urinate. It may cause the body to lose too much water. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Maintaining good hygiene can help prevent fungal infections in the genital area.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems or a urinary tract infection or if you are on water pills (diuretics). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking it as this may increase the risk of developing some side effects. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.

Motivyst Tablet is used alone or together with other diabetes medicines to control blood sugar and avoid long-term complications.
It may cause your body to lose too much fluid (dehydration) or you may urinate more often. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety.
It can cause genital fungal and/or urinary tract infections (UTIs) in both females and males, so practice good hygiene.
It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal.
Monitor your blood sugar regularly while taking this medicine.
Inform your doctor immediately if you experience constant dizziness, joint pain, cold-like symptoms or unexplained nausea/vomiting.

Motivyst Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding

Motivyst Tablet is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.

Driving

It is not known whether Motivyst Tablet alters the ability to drive. Do not drive if you experience any symptoms that affect your ability to concentrate and react. Please consult your doctor.
However, dizziness or lightheadedness has been reported, which may affect your ability to drive, cycle, or use tools or machines.

CAUTION

Motivyst Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Dose adjustment is not needed in patients with mild renal disease. However, it is not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment or patients undergoing dialysis.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Motivyst Tablet is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment is recommended.
Dose adjustment is not needed in patients with mild to moderate liver disease. However, it is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Motivyst with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Disopyramide (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as confusion, headache, nausea, dizziness or faintness and consult your doctor if you experience them.

Rifampicin (Oral Route)

Do not consume Canagliflozin with Rifampicin. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Rifampicin may reduce blood levels of Canagliflozin.

Your doctor may monitor your diabetic control closely and adjust the doses as per the observations.

Motivyst Tablet is used in adults with type 2 diabetes to lower blood sugar levels. It works best when used along with diet and exercise. Is Motivyst Tablet the same as metformin?

No, Motivyst Tablet is not the same as metformin. Motivyst Tablet is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor whereas metformin is a biguanide. Motivyst Tablet lowers blood sugar by causing the kidneys to get rid of more glucose in the urine. On the other hand, metformin works by reducing the amount of sugar which your liver releases into your blood.

How do you take Motivyst Tablet?

Take Motivyst Tablet exactly as advised by your doctor. You should swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take your tablet with or without food. It is best to take it before the first meal of the day, preferably at the same time each day. This will help you remember to take it.

What types of patients are more prone to amputation?

Patients having a history of amputation are more prone to lower limb amputation. The risk is also high in patients with foot ulcers or sores or who have or had heart disease. Also, patients who have or have suffered from peripheral vascular disease (narrowing of blood vessels in feet, legs, or arms causing numbness, pain, or coldness) and neuropathy (nerve damage that causes tingling, numbness, and pain, usually in your hands and feet) also have a high risk of lower limb amputation.

Can Motivyst Tablet cause weight loss?

Motivyst Tablet usually causes loss of fat mass which further leads to weight loss. However, this may vary from person to person depending upon the doses and whether it is being used alone or with other diabetes medications.

What are the serious side effects of Motivyst Tablet?

The serious side effects of Motivyst Tablet include ketoacidosis (increased ketones in your blood or urine), some allergic reaction, sudden kidney impairment, serious urinary tract infections and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Motivyst Tablet may also cause a serious bacterial infection that may damage the tissue under the skin in the area between and around the anus and genitals (perineum), although it is rare. This medicine may weaken your bones, increasing the risk of fractures, particularly in the upper arms, wrists, or hands.
