Levroxa Syrup is an anti-epileptic medicine. It is used to control and prevent epileptic seizures. You may experience sleepiness and irritability while taking this medicine. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting your doctor as it may increase the occurrence of fits.

How to use Levroxa Oral Solution

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Levroxa Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Levroxa Oral Solution works

Levroxa Syrup is an antiepileptic medication. It works by attaching to specific sites (SV2A) on the surfaces of nerve cells. This suppresses the abnormal activity of the nerve cells in the brain and prevents the spread of electrical signals that cause seizures.

Pregnancy

Levroxa Syrup may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Levroxa Syrup is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Monitor the baby for sleepiness and adequate weight gain
Driving
Levroxa Syrup may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Levroxa Syrup should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Levroxa Syrup may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
Levroxa Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Levroxa Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
However, a lower dose may be advised in patients with severe liver disease.

Q. Will the use of Levroxa affect my fertility?

Levroxa is not known to affect fertility in males or females. However, talk to your doctor if you are facing fertility issues while taking this medicine.

Q. Can the use of Levroxa cause sleepiness?

Yes, Levroxa can make you feel sleepy. At the beginning of your treatment: do not drive, operate machinery, work at heights, or participate in potentially dangerous activities, until you know how this medicine affects you.

Q. I have gained weight since I started taking Levroxa. Is it because of Levroxa? What should I do?

Weight gain is an uncommon side effect of Levroxa though it may also cause weight loss. It may vary from person to person. To prevent weight gain you can eat a healthy balanced diet, avoid snacking with high-calorie food, include more vegetables and fruits in your diet and exercise regularly. If you still have issues with your weight, consult your doctor.

Q. What should I do if I forget to take Levroxa?

If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take the next dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed. This may increase the chance of side effects. If you are not sure what to do, you can contact your doctor.

Q. How long does Levroxa take to show its effect?

Levroxa may take a few weeks to start working properly since the dose is increased slowly. Your seizures may continue until Levroxa starts working completely.

Q. For how long do I need to take Levroxa?

You should continue to take Levroxa for as long as your doctor advises you to. Do not stop taking it suddenly because this may increase the risk of seizures which may be difficult to control.

Q. Will I get addicted to Levroxa if I use it for a long time?

No, Levroxa is not habit forming. No physical or psychological dependence has been reported with Levroxa.

Q. What symptoms can occur if someone takes excess of Levroxa?

Overdose of Levroxa can cause sleepiness, agitation, aggression, decrease of alertness, inhibition of breathing and coma. In case of an overdose, the patient should be provided immediate medical care in a nearby hospital.

Q. How do I wean myself off Levroxa?

The dose of Levroxa should be slowly reduced and it may take a few months before you can stop it completely. If you get a serious side effect, such as a severe skin condition, your doctor may tell you to stop taking Levroxa straight away, even if you have epilepsy.
