Introduction

Karzine 100mg Tablet is a medicine used in the treatment of schizophrenia, mania, psychosis, intractable hiccup, impulsive behavior, autism and nausea and vomiting of terminal illness. It works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood.

Karzine 100mg Tablet is taken by mouth with or without food preferably before bedtime. Take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor and if you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly without talking to doctor as it may worsen your symptoms. Before taking the medicine, inform your doctor if you have any liver disease, thyroid or kidney disease, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, or any heart disease. If you are diabetic, it is important to monitor your blood glucose regularly while taking this medicine.

Some common side effects of this medicine includes dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, and tremor. Initially, this medicine may cause sudden drop in the blood pressure when you change positions, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. This medicine can lead to weight gain, have healthy balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Driving
UNSAFE
Karzine 100mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Karzine 100mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Karzine 100mg Tablet is recommended.
However, inform your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease. A close monitoring is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

Quick Tips

  • Do not use chlorpromazine in children < 1 year unless the need is lifesaving or in children ≤12 years for the treatment of hiccups.
  • Tell your doctor before taking chlorpromazine if you are suffering from liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, reduced activity of thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), heart disease, raised eyeball pressure (glaucoma), diabetes, tendency to form blood clots or a family history of clotting disorder, pheochromocytoma (high blood pressure due to a tumour near the kidney), or enlarged prostate.
  • Inform your doctor if you have known cardiovascular disease or family history of QT prolongation and if you are taking medicines that may prolong the QT interval.
  • Inform your doctor of other medications that you may be taking for psychiatric disorders, lowering of blood pressure, insomnia, fits, Parkinson’s disease, migraine etc.
  • Do not stop taking chlorpromazine or change its dose without consulting your doctor.
  • Monitor blood glucose regularly while on chlorpromazine treatment, if you are a patient with diabetes
  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after taking chlorpromazine as it may cause drowsiness and visual disturbances. 
  • Do not consume this drug if you are allergic to any phenothiazine drug, chlorpromazine or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
