Overview

Introduction of Gabantin Capsule

Gabantin 100 Capsule is a medicine used to treat epilepsy and nerve pain. It works in different ways to stop seizures (epilepsy) and to block pain messages reaching the brain (nerve pain).

You can take Gabantin 100 Capsule with or without food and it may be used for a short time or long-term. If you have epilepsy you may be taking it for many years. If you have nerve pain the treatment may be shorter. The dose depends on what you are taking it for and will be adjusted for you and your condition, probably starting at a low dose and working up to one which suits you. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Take this medicine at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit. It takes at least a few weeks for the medicine to work. Continue taking it until your doctor tells you to stop. If you have epilepsy, missing doses may trigger a seizure. You should avoid drinking alcohol as it may increase some side effects. You may also get side effects after stopping the treatment.

The side effects of Gabantin 100 Capsule are usually mild and go away by themselves. The most common ones are feeling sleepy, dizziness, and headache. Other side effects include an increased appetite, weight gain, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, blurred vision, confusion, and swelling in your hands and feet. There are many others, some serious, but most do not need medical attention. Talk to your doctor about potential side effects and ways you might prevent or cope with them. A small number of people taking the medicine have had suicidal thoughts.

Before taking the medicine you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Gabantin 100 Capsule can usually be mixed safely with other medicines but some drugs (including antacids and alcohol) do affect the way it works and can increase the chance of side effects. This medicine is not suitable for children under the age of 18 and can be addictive.

I am taking eptoin 100 mg tablets daily three how to leave it
Dr. Jyoti Kapoor Madan
Psychiatrist
Eptoin is prescribed for treatment of epilepsy/fits. Based on your clinical history, your doctor plans the type of medicine and it's dose and duration. For first episode of epileptic fit the usual maintenance phase is 3years of asymptomatic period, after which medicines can be gradually tapered. But treatment may need to continue longer depending on severity and frequency of episodes. To take any decision to change medication or stop them, several factors have to be taken in account for which regular follow up with your psychiatrist or neurologist is important. For second opinion, seek a proper consultation with another psychiatrist or neurologist and take along your previous prescriptions.
