How to use Folican Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Folican Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Folican Tablet works

Folican Tablet is a form of vitamin B. It plays a vital role in the formation of red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body. It is also essential in pregnancy due to its role in the development of the unborn baby's brain and spinal cord.

Alcohol
CAUTION
Folican Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure with alcohol (Disulfiram reactions).
Pregnancy

Folican Tablet is safe to use during pregnancy.
Adequate and well-controlled human studies have shown low or no risk.
Lactation
SAFE
Folican Tablet is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving

Folican Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
Folican Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Folican Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

In addition folic acid is also used for prevention of folate deficiency caused by some medicines (e.g. phenytoin, phenobarbital and primidone used to treat epilepsy), folate deficiency caused by long-term red blood cell damage or kidney dialysis However, patients should follow the advice of the doctor regarding the dose and duration of use of folic acid

Folic acid may interact with medicines such as methotrexate/sulfonamide antibiotics (sulfasalazine, cotrimoxazole etc). It has no known effect if taken with warfarin/calcium/ metformin.
