Introduction of Fluvoxin Tablet ER

Fluvoxin CR 50 Tablet is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. This medicine helps by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain and it helps to improve mood and physical symptoms of the disease.

Fluvoxin CR 50 Tablet is taken at night with or without food. It is advisable to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent level of medicine in the blood. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly without talking to doctor as this may result in harmful effects. Some common side effects of this medicine includes low sexual desire, nausea, headache, delayed ejaculation and insomnia (difficulty in sleeping). Initially, this medicine may cause sudden drop in the blood pressure when you change positions, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. It may even cause dizziness and sleepiness, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. This medicine may cause weight gain, have a balanced diet and exercise regularly to manage it. It is important to inform doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood as it may lead to suicidal thoughts.

How Fluvoxin Tablet ER works

Fluvoxin CR 50 Tablet is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms in depression and relieves symptoms of panic and obsessive disorders.

What if you miss a dose of Fluvoxin Tablet ER?

If you miss a dose of Fluvoxin CR 50 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It's a neurochemical disturbance in brain and worsens due to stressful environment. OCD is typically treated with medication, psychotherapy or a combination of the two. Treatment duration depends upon the intensity and frequency of episodes and may be needed throughout life. Regular follow up with your psychiatrist ensures that add on medicines like clonazepam can be tapered off. Fluvoxin and clomipramine are not tranquillisers.

Q. Is Fluvoxin used for anxiety?

Yes, Fluvoxin is used to treat social anxiety disorder. It is anxiety related to interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life. Fluvoxin is also used for treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic attacks. In OCD, a person experiences bothersome thoughts that do not go away and the irresistible desire to perform certain actions over and over.

Q. Can Fluvoxin get you high?

There is no evidence that Fluvoxin causes dependence. But, it is possible that patients may experience withdrawal symptoms on sudden discontinuation of Fluvoxin. Usually, the withdrawal symptoms are mild and go away on their own within 2 weeks.

Q. Who should not take Fluvoxin?

You should not take Fluvoxin if you are allergic to it, if you are taking another medicine to treat depression called a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI), or if you have stopped taking an MAOI within the last 14 days. This is because taking both these medicines close in time together may cause serious and sometimes fatal reactions like high body temperature, convulsions, and even coma.

Q. Does Fluvoxin make you sleepy?

Yes, a common side effect of Fluvoxin is sleepiness. It may also affect your ability to think clearly, make decisions, or react quickly. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until and unless you know how Fluvoxin affects you.

Q. Does Fluvoxin have any serious health risks associated with it?

Yes, the use of Fluvoxin may cause serious health risks. These may include increased risks of suicidal thoughts and actions, mania, bleeding problems, convulsions, visual problems, and low sodium levels in the blood.

Q. How quickly does Fluvoxin work?

It takes long for Fluvoxin to start working. However, you may see an improvement in sleep, appetite, and energy levels within 1-2 weeks of starting Fluvoxin. While, conditions like depressed mood and lack of interest in activities may take about 6-8 weeks to improve.

Q. Can I stop Fluvoxin if I am better now?

Consult your doctor who will gradually reduce the dose before stopping it completely. This is done because sudden discontinuation of Fluvoxin may cause withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms include anxiety, irritability, high or low mood, feeling restless or changes in sleep habits, headache, sweating, nausea, dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, shaking, and confusion.

Q. Does Fluvoxin cause weight gain?

Fluvoxin may either cause weight gain or weight loss. The weight loss could be due to loss of appetite. However, the frequency of weight gain or loss is not known. As compared to other anti-depressants, there is no significant change in body weight with Fluvoxin in majority of people.
