Eslizen 800mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time, each day. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not stop taking it abruptly without discussing it with your doctor, as it may increase seizure frequency.

Some of the common side effects of this medicine include blurred or double vision, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, rash, and diarrhea. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Please consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or do not go away.

Your doctor may advice for regular monitoring of sodium levels, as it may reduce the sodium levels in your blood (hyponatremia). Inform your doctor if you are taking oral contraceptive pills as this medicine reduces their levels in the body.

Eslizen 800mg Tablet is an anticonvulsant (or anti-epileptic) medicine that works by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures. By controlling the frequency of seizures, it will help you go about your daily activities with more confidence. It helps reduce symptoms such as confusion, uncontrollable jerking movements, loss of awareness, and fear or anxiety.
This medicine is not associated with any physical or psychological dependence (addiction) but it should not be stopped suddenly. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. Missing doses may trigger a seizure.

Side effects of Eslizen Tablet

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

How Eslizen Tablet works

Eslizen 800mg Tablet is an anti epileptic medication. It works by blocking the voltage gated sodium channels that stabilizes the hyperexcited nerve cells in the brain. In this way, it treats seizures or fits.

Quick tips

Take your medication regularly as directed by your doctor as missing doses can trigger seizures.
Do not change the brand of your medicine and make sure that you have sufficient amount of medicine present with you.
Some healthy tips to prevent seizures:
- Practice yoga every day.
- Get enough sleep at nighttime.
- Limit the use of screen time such as mobile/laptop.
- Take your medication on time.
It may cause dizziness and sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you.
Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
It may cause a reduction in blood sodium level (hyponatremia). Your doctor may monitor your blood sodium level regularly.
Inform your doctor if you notice skin reaction such as rash, skin peeling, and itching while using this medicine.
Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may increase the seizure frequency.

Pregnancy

Eslizen 800mg Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding

CAUTION

Eslizen 800mg Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from the body.

Driving

UNSAFE

Eslizen 800mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Kidney

CAUTION

Eslizen 800mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Eslizen 800mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.

Liver

CAUTION

Eslizen 800mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Use of Eslizen 800mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Eslizen with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Ulipristal acetate (Oral Route)

Do not consume Ulipristal acetate with Eslicarbazepine. If Ulipristal acetate is essential, ensure a gap of At least 4 weeks after discontinuing Eslicarbazepine. Please consult your doctor.

Severe

Pazopanib (Oral Route)

Do not consume Pazopanib with Eslicarbazepine. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Pazopanib.

Moderate

Rosuvastatin (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your cholesterol levels along with your overall treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Rosuvastatin.

Moderate

Atorvastatin (Oral Route)

Your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Atorvastatin.

Moderate

Imatinib mesylate (Oral Route)

Do not consume Imatinib mesylate with Eslicarbazepine. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Imatinib mesylate.

Can I stop taking if I start feeling better?

No, stopping Eslizen 800mg Tablet suddenly can increase your risk of having more seizures. Your doctor will advise you on how long you should take this medicine. If your doctor decides to stop Eslizen 800mg Tablet, your dose will usually be reduced gradually. It is important that you complete your treatment as advised by your doctor or your symptoms may get worse.

Can Eslizen 800mg Tablet cause suicidal thoughts?

Eslizen 800mg Tablet may cause allergic reactions or serious problems that may impact organs and other parts of your body like the liver or blood cells. Consult your doctor straight away if you develop rashes, hives, itchiness, swelling, trouble swallowing or difficulty in breathing.

Can I participate in sports when taking Eslizen 800mg Tablet?

How will I know that my sodium levels are low while taking Eslizen 800mg Tablet?

If your blood sodium levels become low during the course of Eslizen 800mg Tablet, you may experience worsening of seizures, confusion and decreased consciousness. Immediately consult your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms.

Can Eslizen 800mg Tablet be taken with Carbamazepine?

The dose of Eslizen 800mg Tablet may need to be adjusted if you take Carbamazepine with Eslizen 800mg Tablet. The reason being, Carbamazepine interferes with its working.
