Eltromag 25 Tablet is a thrombopoietin agonist. It works by stimulating the formation of new platelets in the blood. The function of platelets is to help reduce bleeding.

Take it in the exact dose and duration as advised by the doctor. You may take it on an empty stomach. This medicine is to be swallowed as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Inform your doctor if you have any known allergies to this medication.

The common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, and urinary tract infection. Let your doctor know if any of these side effects bother you. They may be able able to suggest ways to reduce or treat the symptoms.

Before you take this medicine, inform your doctor if you have any preexisting medical conditions. Let your doctor also know about all the other medicines you are taking. Dose adjustments may be required in patients with liver diseases, inform your doctor.

Treatment of Severe Aplastic Anemia
Eltromag 25 Tablet is also used in combination with other medications to treat aplastic anemia, a condition in which the body does not make enough new blood cells, in adults and children 2 years of age and above. Take it as advised by the doctor to get the most benefits.

Low platelet count due to ITP or HCV infection
Eltromag 25 Tablet is used to increase the number of platelets (cells that help the blood clot) to decrease the risk of bleeding in adults and children 1 year of age and older who have chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP, an ongoing condition that may cause unusual bruising or bleeding due to an abnormally low number of platelets in the blood). It is used in patients who have not benefited or cannot be treated with other treatments, including medications or surgery to remove the spleen. Eltromag 25 Tablet is also used to increase the number of platelets in people who have hepatitis C (a viral infection that may damage the liver). It is usually given along with other medicines.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Eltromag with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Moderate

Rosuvastatin (Oral Route)

Watch out for symptoms of rhabdomyolysis and myopathy like, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, increased heartbeats, confusion, dizziness, unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the dose of Rosuvastatin accordingly. Eltrombopag may raise blood levels of Rosuvastatin.

Moderate

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Oral Route)

Watch out for symptoms of Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate side effects such as headache, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, abdominal pain, cough or back pain and consult your doctor if you experience them. Eltrombopag may raise blood levels of Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

Moderate

Simvastatin (Oral Route)

Watch out for symptoms of rhabdomyolysis and myopathy like, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, increased heartbeats, confusion, dizziness, unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the dose of Simvastatin accordingly. Eltrombopag may raise blood levels of Simvastatin.

Pitavastatin (Oral Route)

watch out for symptoms such as unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may monitor and adjust the dose of Pitavastatin as per the observations. Eltrombopag may raise blood levels of Pitavastatin.

Azathioprine (Oral Route)

Your doctor may monitor your platelet count frequently along with your overall treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations.

Eltromag 25 Tablet is a medicine which is used to increase the number of platelets in your blood. This medicine should be taken just as advised by the doctor. You should take this medicine as a whole with a glass of water without crushing or chewing it.

How do you take Eltromag 25 Tablet?

Eltromag 25 Tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You should take the medicine on an empty stomach either 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating food. Do not alter the dosage or schedule of the medicine unless your prescribing doctor has advised it to do so.

Yes, you may need to avoid certain dairy foods such as cheese, butter, etc. and mineral and vitamin supplements while taking this medicine. Avoid taking these foods four hours before and two hours after taking Eltromag 25 Tablet. If you take these food items or supplements, the medicine may not get absorbed into your body, thereby not acting properly.

How should I store Eltromag 25 Tablet?

This medicine can be stored at room temperature between 20°C to 25°C. Close the bottle tightly and do not remove the desiccant pack if present inside the bottle as it helps to keep the medicine dry.

Can Eltromag 25 Tablet cause serious side effects?

Eltromag 25 Tablet can cause serious side effects like liver problems. The symptoms of liver disease include yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes, pain in the upper right area of the stomach, unusual darkening of the urine, and unusual tiredness. The risk of liver problems increases if the patient is infected with hepatitis C virus or is being treated for it. Taking this medicine may also increase the platelet count in the blood, increasing the risk of developing blood clots. This in turn increases your risk of getting a heart attack or stroke and may prove fatal in some cases. Ideally, regular blood tests are done to monitor the liver functions and platelet count while taking Eltromag 25 Tablet. Its use can also worsen cataract, leading to blurring of vision. Consult your doctor immediately if you notice any of the side effects.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Eltromag 25 Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Eltromag 25 Tablet, you should wait and take your next scheduled dose. Do not take more than one dose of this medicine in a single day. Taking a double dose of this medicine in a single day can increase the risk of side effects.
