Product introduction

Dilzem Gel is used for the treatment of anal fissures (tear in the lining of the anus). It relaxes the smooth muscles around the anus and promotes blood flow to the lining of the anus. This way it helps wound healing and reduces the associated symptoms.

Dilzem Gel is for external use only. Clean and dry the affected area and gently apply it over the affected area. It is advised to use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Limit physical exercises, standing, and prolonged sitting while on medication.

The most common side effects are application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching, and redness), dizziness, rectal bleeding, and headache. There are other, rarer side effects, some of them serious. Ask your doctor and read the leaflet which comes with the medicine to make sure you are keeping safe.

FAQs

Q. Does Dilzem Gel cure anal fissures?

No, it does not cure fissures but Dilzem Gel reduces inflammation of mucous membrane and skin. It reduces irritation, alleviates pain and itching, thus providing relief from symptoms.

Q. Why is my fissure not healing?

Fissures usually heal within a few weeks. But if they do not, this is because the oxygen supply, carried by the blood, to these fissures is poor which further slows down the healing process. As a result, these fissures fail to heal and continue to get worse. You should consult a doctor immediately if you have been facing issues for a duration longer than a few weeks.

Q. What should I eat and avoid in fissure?

You must take a fiber-rich diet such as vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains if you have fissures. Drink plenty of water and avoid taking alcohol. This will help ensure that your stools are soft and easy to pass. You may also take laxatives or fiber supplements if you are facing issues with digestion. Your doctor will suggest ways to avoid constipation and thereby promote healing of fissures.

Q. Can spicy food cause fissures?

No, spicy foods do not cause fissures. But, they can irritate the fissures and worsen your symptoms. Therefore, it is advised to avoid spicy foods if you are facing issues with your fissures.

Q. How do you use Dilzem Gel?

Follow your doctor’s instructions before using Dilzem Gel. Apply a small amount of the gel to the affected rectal area as directed. If this is to be used inside the rectum, attach the rectal applicator onto the tube. Insert the applicator gently and to full extent into the rectum. After that, gently squeeze the tube to deliver the medication while withdrawing it.

Q. How long does it take to heal fissures?

Fissures usually heal within a few weeks. But, if they persist for longer than 4 to 6 weeks, they are termed as chronic fissures. Please consult your doctor without any delay if you have been noticing fissures for longer than 4 weeks.

Q. What precautions do I need to take while using Dilzem Gel?

Be careful not to get Dilzem Gel into your eyes or mouth. If you happen to get it in your eyes, rinse off with plenty of water immediately and contact your doctor. You must not use Dilzem Gel if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Tell your doctor if you notice any allergic reaction while using it for the first time. Also, inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines regularly to prevent any allergic reaction with other medicines. Do not cover the area being treated with Dilzem Gel with a bandage, as this may increase absorption of this medicine and increase the side effects. Do not use more than what is recommended to relieve your symptoms faster. Using more than what is advised will only increase the side effects. Let your doctor know if you are planning to conceive.
