Dilvas 10 Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It should be taken on an empty stomach. This medicine should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or even if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet, as advised by your doctor. Interaction with drugs

Taking Dilvas with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Co-trimoxazole (Oral Route)

Do not consume Enalapril with Co-trimoxazole. If concurrent use is essential, please consult your doctor. They may monitor your potassium levels closely.

Severe

Eplerenone (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as muscle weakness, fatigue, cramps, nausea, vomiting, tingling, numbness or irregular heartbeat and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may also monitor your potassium levels closely.

Spironolactone (Oral Route)

Do not consume Enalapril with Spironolactone in case of kidney disorders. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may closely monitor your kidney function and adjust or discontinue the medicines accordingly.

Dilvas 10 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Since the workload on the heart is reduced, it helps to lower the blood pressure and thus reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. Does Dilvas 10 Tablet cause excessive urination? Can it cause kidney damage?

No, Dilvas 10 Tablet does not cause excessive urination (loss of water through urine). The use of Dilvas 10 Tablet may not affect normally functioning kidneys. However, damage to the kidneys may occur when Dilvas 10 Tablet is given with a diuretic (water pill, a medicine that increases the urine output). In such a case, either the diuretic should be discontinued or its dose should be reduced. If you have severe heart failure or your kidneys are already affected then there is a risk of kidney failure. However, timely and appropriate treatment can reverse the damage caused to kidneys.

Can use of Dilvas 10 Tablet affect my liver?

In rare cases, Dilvas 10 Tablet may cause yellowing of skin and eyes, loss of appetite and an increase in liver enzymes. It can also cause considerable damage to the liver and even death. Therefore, if you experience any such symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Is it safe to use Dilvas 10 Tablet along with hydrochlorthiazide?

You have to be careful when taking Dilvas 10 Tablet with hydrochlorothiazide, as it can further decrease your blood pressure. You may also develop symptoms of kidney failure, such as a reduced amount of urine, swelling of your legs, ankles, and feet from retention of water. While some may experience unexplained shortness of breath, excessive drowsiness or fatigue, persistent nausea, confusion, pain or pressure in your chest and seizures (fits). These symptoms usually occur if there is substantial water or salt loss prior to starting Dilvas 10 Tablet. Therefore, if you face any such issues contact your doctor who will either advise you to discontinue hydrochlorothiazide or give a lower dose. The doctor may also advise you Dilvas 10 Tablet in very low doses when used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide.

I am taking ibuprofen for arthritis, is it safe to take Dilvas 10 Tablet along with it?

You should avoid taking ibuprofen and Dilvas 10 Tablet together since there is a risk of kidney damage. Also, this combined usage may reduce the effectiveness of Dilvas 10 Tablet. Consult your doctor for an alternative to ibuprofen.

How long does it take for Dilvas 10 Tablet to start working?

Dilvas 10 Tablet starts reducing blood pressure within few hours. However, it may take few weeks to see full benefits.
