Overview

Introduction

Dienofem Tablet is used for the treatment of pelvic pain associated with endometriosis. It consists of progestin, which is similar to the female hormone and works by suppressing the production of hormone causing endometrium.

Dienofem Tablet can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It should be taken as your doctor's advice. The dose and how often you take it depends on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. Keep taking this medicine even during your menstrual periods.

The most common side effects of this medicine include acne, headache, depressed mood, and breast discomfort. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Usually, it makes your menstrual cycle irregular or you experience spotting or brown discharge in the middle of cycle. Consult with your doctor if this occurs frequently.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have ever had unexplained vaginal or uterine bleeding, or have circulatory blood disorder. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding before starting the treatment.

Side effects of Dienofem Tablet

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of Dienofem

  • Acne
  • Headache
  • Depression
  • Breast discomfort

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Acne
Do not wash affected areas more than twice a day. Use a mild soap or cleanser and do not scrub the affected area. Avoid using too much make-up and excessive sun exposure. Try to eat a healthy balanced diet and avoid oily or spicy food. Do not try to squeeze spots and refrain from touching or picking the affected areas as it can trigger more acne, leading to infection or scarring. Regularly wash pillowcases, sheets and clothes that come in contact with acne. Talk to your doctor if your acne has not improved. They will assess your acne and suggest next steps for treatment.
  • Coping with Headache
Make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Rest in a quiet, dimly lit room. Do not sleep more than you normally would. Do not strain your eyes (for example by looking at a screen). Do not drink alcohol. Headaches are usually temporary and usually go away with time. But, if they last longer or get worse, ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller.
  • Coping with Depression
It is important to talk to your doctor if you think you may be depressed. The sooner you do this, the sooner you can recover. Treatment for depression can involve a combination of lifestyle changes, talking therapies (such as counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy) and medicines (antidepressants). There are many things you can do for yourself if your depression is not too severe. Exercise is an extremely effective treatment for depression, so make sure you keep as active as possible. It can really lift your mood. A healthy diet can also make a big difference to your mood (as well as improving your physical health). Mindfulness is a technique that many people find helpful. It may be tempting to smoke or drink alcohol, but both will make things worse in the long run. Try talking to a friend or family member even if you do not feel comfortable doing this. Get into a routine with regular sleep patterns and meals. If you have thoughts of self-harm or suicide, contact your doctor immediately.
  • Coping with Breast discomfort
Use hot or cold compresses on your breasts. You could try some pain-relieving creams or gels. Wear bras which fit well. Wear a soft support bra when you sleep and a good sports bra when you are exercising. Avoid consuming caffeinated drinks as it can increase the discomfort. Limit your salt intake as it contributes to water retention which causes pain and swelling. Talk to your doctor because in many cases, it is possible to treat breast pain with over-the-counter medicines.

How to use Dienofem Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Dienofem Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
