Dabigat 110 Capsule

Overview

Introduction of Dabigat Capsule

Dabigat 110 Capsule is a medicine known as an anticoagulant or blood thinner. It helps prevent and treat blood clots. The medicine is used to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. It prevents and treats clot formation in the veins of your legs, lungs, brain, and heart.

Dabigat 110 Capsule is commonly used in patients with irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to prevent clot formation. It also reduces the risk of getting clots in people who have undergone knee or hip replacement surgeries. It can be taken with or without food and it is best to take them at the same time each day. You may need to take it for many years, even for life in some cases. Do not stop taking the medicine or change the dose without guidance from your doctor. It could quickly put you more at risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis. You can reduce your risk of having a blood clot by making changes to your lifestyle such as not smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and losing weight if you need to.

The most common side effect of Dabigat 110 Capsule is bleeding more easily than normal, for example having nosebleeds or bruising. If you experience any symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. Other side effects include headache, seizures, changes to your eyesight, and tiredness.

Dabigat 110 Capsule needs to be used with caution. Do not take it if you have severe kidney or liver problems, if you are currently bleeding, or if you are taking other medicines to reduce blood clotting. You should not breastfeed while using this medicine. Unlike other anti-coagulants, regular blood test (PT-INR) is not required while taking this medicine.

FAQs

Q. When should I take Dabigat?

Mostly, Dabigat is suggested to be taken twice daily at the same time each day. The two doses should be taken at a gap of about 12 hours. If you miss a dose of Dabigat, then take it as soon as possible up to 6 hours prior to the next scheduled dose. However, skip the missed dose if your next dose is less than 6 hours away. Never take two doses of Dabigat at the same time.

Q. Can I drink alcohol with Dabigat?

Taking alcohol while taking Dabigat can increase the effect of this medicine, thereby increasing the chance of bleeding. Regular intake of alcohol while taking Dabigat can lead to gastric ulcer which might again cause bleeding. So, it is better to avoid alcohol while you on Dabigat. Do consult your doctor if any such episode of bleeding occurs.

Q. Can Dabigat cause hair loss?

As compared to other blood-thinning medicines, Dabigat does not usually cause hair loss. However, there do exist some rare reports of hair loss associated with Dabigat. Consult your doctor if you face hair loss while taking Dabigat to rule out any other causes of hair loss.

Q. When will I feel better after taking Dabigat?

Q. Does Dabigat affect the liver?

Unlike other anticoagulants, Dabigat usually does not affect the functioning of the liver. But long-term use of Dabigat may increase the chances of mild liver injury in patients with elevated liver enzymes. However, the overall chances of developing any such problem is lower than other anticoagulants. It is advised that you inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease before starting this medicine.

Q. How should I store Dabigat?

Dabigat should be stored at room temperature between 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C). Store the medicine at a dry place and protect the capsules from moisture.
