How to use Cimetin Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Cimetin 200 mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Cimetin Tablet works

Cimetin 200 mg Tablet is a H2 blocker (antacid). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

Cimetin Tablet related warnings

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Cimetin 200 mg Tablet. Alcohol use can increase acid secretion, acid reflux in food pipe causing heartburn and decreasing effect of this drug. Also, Cimetidine can decrease alcohol breakdown and increase its level in blood.
Cimetin 200 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Cimetin 200 mg Tablet is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Cimetin 200 mg Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Cimetin 200 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Cimetin 200 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Cimetin Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Cimetin 200 mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Q. How can Cimetin cause gynecomastia?

Cimetin causes gynecomastia (enlarged breasts of males) by decreasing the male hormone (testosterone) levels and blocking the receptors on the target tissue on which testosterone acts. However, the breast enlargement would go away once you stop taking this medicine.

Q. Can I take Cimetin with loperamide?

Cimetin can decrease the metabolism of loperamide, increase its blood levels and hence, increase its effects and side effects. Your dose of loperamide may needs to be decreased. Consult your doctor prior to taking both the drugs together.

Q. What are the side effects of Cimetin injection?

Headache, dizziness, somnolence, gynecomastia, impotence, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting are some of the side effects reported with the use of Cimetin injection.

Q. Is there any vitamin and mineral loss when Cimetin is taken?

Cimetin is not known to cause mineral loss or deficiency. However, Cimetin belongs to the class of H2 receptor blocker which can decrease vitamin B12 absorption and cause its deficiency as reported in some studies especially when used for more than two years.

No, Cimetin is not an antacid as it does not neutralize the acids of the stomach rather it works by decreasing the production of the acid.

Clinical studies or reports so far have not reported any withdrawal symptoms when the patient stops taking Cimetin and this suggests that Cimetin has no addictive potential.

Antacids and Cimetin both can be taken at the same time as they are not known to affect each other’s action. However, both Cimetin and antacids help in decreasing the acidity and use of more than one drug for the same effect is not advisable unless absolutely necessary.

Q. Does Cimetin work for molluscum contagiosum?

Oral Cimetin has been seen to be effective in treating molluscum in children. However, this is not an approved indication for its use. Please consult your doctor before taking it for this condition.

Q. Which is better Cimetin or ranitidine?

Ranitidine is three times more potent than Cimetin which means a much lower dose of ranitidine gives the same effect in treating your acidity as Cimetin. Also, ranitidine does not block the action of testosterone and other side effects as seen with Cimetin.

Q. Why does Cimetin increase the action of opiates?

Cimetin increases the action of an opioid like substances by inhibiting enzymes which are responsible for the breakdown of opiates. Due to a decrease in the breakdown, opioid levels increase in the body and hence their action is also increased.
