Cilvoryl 1mg Tablet

Prescription Required

Overview

Introduction

Cilvoryl 1mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas and helps control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. This helps to prevent serious complications of diabetes like kidney damage and blindness.

Cilvoryl 1mg Tablet may be used alone or along with other medicines. It should be taken just before, or with, the first meal of the day. Take it regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit. Your doctor will decide what dose is best for you and this may change from time to time according to your blood sugar levels.

Keep taking this medicine, even if you feel well or your blood sugar levels are controlled. If you stop it without consulting your doctor, your blood sugar levels could rise and put you at risk of kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems and loss of limbs. Remember that it is only part of a treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes.

The most common side effects of taking this medicine include low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), nausea, headache, and dizziness. Make sure you recognize the signs of having low blood sugar levels, such as sweating, dizziness, headache, and shaking and know how to deal with it. To prevent this, it's important to have regular meals and always carry a fast-acting source of glucose such as sugary food or fruit juice with you. Drinking alcohol can also increase your risk of low blood sugar levels and should be avoided. Some people may find that they put on weight with this medicine.

You should not take it if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis (high levels of acid in your blood), or if you have severe kidney or liver disease. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had heart disease, thyroid disease or some hormonal conditions. It may not be suitable. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your blood sugar levels should be checked regularly and your doctor may also advise blood tests to monitor your blood cell counts and liver function.

FAQs

Q. Does Cilvoryl make you sleepy?

Cilvoryl itself does not cause sleepiness. However, it may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with other anti-diabetes medicine. Because of this you may feel sleepy or problems in sleeping.

Q. Is Cilvoryl safe for kidneys?

Cilvoryl does not affect kidneys in patients with normal kidney function. However, its use should be avoided in patients with severe kidney disease since Cilvoryl is principally eliminated by the kidneys.

Q. Does Cilvoryl cause memory loss?

No, it is not known that Cilvoryl causes memory loss. However, use of Cilvoryl may cause low blood sugar which may cause problems with concentration and reduced alertness.

Q. Who should not take Cilvoryl?

Cilvoryl should be avoided by patients who are allergic to it, have severe kidney or liver disease, have G6PD-deficiency (an inherited condition affecting red blood cells), or are due to have surgery. Along with that, patients who are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant, or breastfeeding, or have insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1 diabetes mellitus) should also avoid taking Cilvoryl.

Q. How long does it take for Cilvoryl to start working?

Cilvoryl takes about 2 to 3 hours to reduce blood sugar levels. You may not feel any difference, but it does not mean it is not working. So, continue the medication as directed by your doctor and if you have any concerns, discuss with your doctor.

Q. How long do I need to take Cilvoryl? Can I stop the medication?

Treatment for diabetes is usually for life. You may have to continue the treatment life long. Do not stop taking Cilvoryl without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking Cilvoryl suddenly your diabetes may get worse.

Q. How and when to take Cilvoryl?

Cilvoryl tablets are available in 1mg, 2mg, 3mg and 4mg doses. The dose and frequency of the medicine will be decided by your doctor. Generally, a single daily dose of Cilvoryl is sufficient to control blood sugar levels. The dose should be taken whole with water shortly before or during breakfast or if you skip breakfast shortly before or during your first main meal.

Q. What can happen if I take more than the recommended dose of Cilvoryl?

Overdose of Cilvoryl may significantly decrease your blood sugar levels (a condition called hypoglycemia). If you have taken an excess dose then you should instantly consume enough sugar (e.g., a small bar of sugar cubes, sweet juice, sweetened tea) and inform a doctor immediately. Severe cases of hypoglycaemia accompanied by loss of consciousness and coma are cases of medical emergency requiring immediate medical treatment and admission into hospital.
