How to use Choltran Oral Suspension

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Choltran Oral Suspension at a fixed time.

How Choltran Oral Suspension works

Choltran oral suspension is a bile acid binding agent. It removes bile acid from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol. Because the body use cholesterol to make bile acids, the levels of cholesterol in the body is lowered.

Expert advice for Choltran Oral Suspension

  • Inform your doctor before taking the drug if you have phenylketonuria.
  • Children may require administration of folic acid with cholestyramine. Cholestyramine is not recommended for children less than 6 years of age.
  • Make sure you take other prescribed medicines atleast one hour before taking cholestyramine as the drugs may affect absorption of cholestyramine.
  • Avoid alcohol intake while taking this drug as it may increase the level of cholesterol in the blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
