C Met 400mg Tablet



C Met 400mg Tablet is an antacid. It reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It is used to treat and prevent heartburn, indigestion and other symptoms caused by too much acid in the stomach. It is also used to treat and prevent stomach ulcers, reflux disease, and some rarer conditions.

C Met 400mg Tablet is also commonly prescribed to prevent stomach ulcers and heartburn caused due to the use of pain killers. It must be swallowed whole with water preferably before meals to prevent the symptoms of acidity. The medicine must be taken in dose and duration as advised by the doctor. This medicine should relieve indigestion and heartburn within a few hours. If the symptoms persist or get worse even after 14 days of treatment, you should consult your doctor immediately. It is not recommended to take this medicine in severe stomach disease. You can help the medicine work better by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding spicy or oily foods.

Most people who take it do not have any side effects but the most common include headache, dizziness, diarrhea, muscle pain, skin rash, and tiredness. If you do get a side effect, it is usually mild and will go away when you stop taking this medicine or as you adjust to it. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects bother you or do not go away.

Before taking it, you should tell your doctor if you have any heart, kidney, or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you. Also, tell your doctor if you are taking other medications. This medicine is usually considered safe to take during pregnancy and breastfeeding if it has been prescribed by a doctor. Avoid drinking alcohol as this can increase the amount of acid in your stomach and make your symptoms worse.

How to use C Met Tablet

How C Met Tablet works

C Met 400mg Tablet is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid related indigestion and heartburn.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with C Met 400mg Tablet.
C Met 400mg Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
C Met 400mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
C Met 400mg Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
C Met 400mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of C Met 400mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

What if you forget to take C Met Tablet?

If you miss a dose of C Met 400mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • If you are also taking other medications to treat acidity (e.g., antacid), take them 2 hours before or after taking C Met 400mg Tablet.
  • Avoid taking soft drinks, citrus fruits like orange and lemon, which can irritate the stomach and increase acid secretion.

Q. How can C Met cause gynecomastia?

C Met causes gynecomastia (enlarged breasts of males) by decreasing the male hormone (testosterone) levels and blocking the receptors on the target tissue on which testosterone acts. However, the breast enlargement is not bothersome. Please consult your doctor if this worries you.

Q. Can I take C Met with loperamide?

C Met can decrease the metabolism of loperamide, increase its blood levels and hence, increase its effects and side effects. Your dose of loperamide may needs to be decreased. Consult your doctor prior to taking both the drugs together.

Q. Is there any vitamin and mineral loss when C Met is taken?

C Met is not known to cause vitamin and mineral loss or deficiency. However, C Met belongs to the class of H2 receptor blocker which can decrease vitamin B12 absorption and cause its deficiency as reported in some studies especially when used for more than two years.

Q. Is C Met an antacid?

No, C Met is not an antacid as it does not neutralize the acids of the stomach rather it works by decreasing the production of the acid.

Q. Are there any withdrawal symptoms associated with the use of C Met?

Clinical studies or reports so far have not reported any withdrawal symptoms when the patient stops taking C Met and this suggests that C Met has no addictive potential.

Q. Can I take C Met with antacids?

Antacids and C Met both can be taken at the same time as they are not known to affect each other’s action. However, both C Met and antacids help in decreasing the acidity and use of more than one drug for the same effect is not advisable unless absolutely necessary.

Q. Can I take C Met with coffee?

There are no reports of any harmful effects of taking C Met along with coffee. However, C Met can decrease the breakdown of coffee and increase its effects. Also, coffee is a gastric stimulant and can increase acid secretion and aggravate your underlying condition.

Q. How is omeprazole better than C Met?

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and C Met is an H2 receptor blocker. They act in different ways but both decrease the acid production in the stomach. However, according to some studies, omeprazole is more potent, longer acting, and has fewer side effects when compared to C Met.

Q. Why should C Met be taken at bedtime?

C Met can be given as a single daily dose or as multiple daily doses depending on your condition. When given in a single dose, it is preferred that you should take it before going to bed as it is very effective in decreasing nighttime acid secretion and a fixed time will help you to remember to take the medicine.

Q. Does C Met work for molluscum contagiosum?

Oral C Met has been seen to be effective in treating molluscum in children. However, this is not an approved indication for its use. Please consult your doctor before taking it for this condition.

Q. Why does C Met increase the action of opiates?

C Met increases the action of an opioid like substances by inhibiting enzymes which are responsible for the breakdown of opiates. Due to a decrease in the breakdown, opioid levels increase in the body and hence their action is also increased.

Q. Is C Met available over the counter?

No, C Met is not available as an over-the-counter medication. It is a prescription medicine and is available only when prescribed by a physician.
