Biosev 800 Tablet is used to treat increased phosphate levels in the blood. It is used in patients who are on dialysis due to severe kidney disease. It inhibits the absorption of phosphate from the intestine and lowers the phosphate levels in the blood.

Taking Biosev with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Ofloxacin (Oral Route)

To take Ofloxacin, ensure a gap of at least 1 hour before and 3 hours after taking Sevelamer. Sevelamer may reduce blood levels of Ofloxacin.

Moderate

Sparfloxacin (Oral Route)

To take Sparfloxacin, ensure a gap of at least 1 hour before and 3 hours after taking Sevelamer. Sevelamer may reduce blood levels of Sparfloxacin.

Moderate

Norfloxacin (Oral Route)

To take Norfloxacin, ensure a gap of at least 1 hour before and 3 hours after taking Sevelamer. Sevelamer may reduce blood levels of Norfloxacin.

Levofloxacin (Oral Route)

To take Levofloxacin, ensure a gap of at least 1 hour before and 3 hours after taking Sevelamer. Sevelamer may reduce blood levels of Levofloxacin.

A common side effect of Biosev 800 Tablet is constipation, though it does not occur in everyone. The other common side effects of the stomach and intestine include diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence, and pain in the abdomen. Immediately consult your doctor if these side effects become severe and disturb you.

Who should not take Biosev 800 Tablet?

Patients who are allergic to Biosev 800 Tablet and who have low levels of phosphate in blood should avoid taking Biosev 800 Tablet. Additionally, patients having intestinal obstruction should also avoid using Biosev 800 Tablet.

Can I take ciprofloxacin while I am taking Biosev 800 Tablet?

Ciprofloxacin may interfere with the working of Biosev 800 Tablet and therefore it should not be taken at the same time as Biosev 800 Tablet. However, if taken together then a gap of at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking Biosev 800 Tablet should be maintained.

How long do I need to take Biosev 800 Tablet?

Continue taking Biosev 800 Tablet as long as recommended by your doctor. Biosev 800 Tablet lowers your dietary phosphate levels but does not cure your disease. Hence, you may have to take it lifelong, as stopping Biosev 800 Tablet may increase your phosphate levels.

Do I need to have any tests while taking Biosev 800 Tablet?

Yes, serum phosphate levels should be monitored regularly while you are taking Biosev 800 Tablet. Also, the use of Biosev 800 Tablet may decrease the levels of vitamin D, A, E, K, and folic acid and hence the levels need to be monitored during the treatment.
