1 in every 4 child deaths across the globe due to pneumonia and diarrhea occurs in India.
-With nearly three lakh children dying of pneumonia and diarrhoea, India was ranked amongst the top five countries to house the maximum number of deaths due to pneumonia and diarrhoea in children.
-As per the Pneumonia and Diarrhoea Progress Report for 2016, India along with four other countries (Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola) was found to have the highest global burden of pneumonia and diarrhoea (amongst children) in the world.
-As a preventive measure, only six countries (amongst those carrying highest global burden) introduced the rotavirus vaccine to their immunization program. India introduced the rotavirus vaccine to four states in the year 2015.
-Surprisingly, the list of the top 15 countries remain unchanged for the years 2015 and 2016.
