Cigarette Smoking Causes Bone Degeneration In Youngsters

-The recent report from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) revealed that over 1 million people in India die due to smoking every year. The economic burden of tobacco consumption was calculated to be close to 104,500 crores every annum.

-A recent study published in the Annals of The American Thoracic Society suggested that smoking is an independent risk factor for decreased bone density in both men and women.

-As per the study, the participants with normal bone density showcased an average of 36.6 pack-years of smoking whereas those with low bone density had an average of 46.9 pack-years of smoking.

-As per studies smoking during the bone-building years was found to increase the risk of osteoporosis in the later years.
