Overview

Introduction of Zentel Tablet

Zentel Tablet is an antiparasitic medicine, used for the treatment of parasitic worm infections. It works by killing the worms that cause infections and stops the infection from spreading.

Zentel Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Take it with or without food, preferably at a fixed time. Avoid skipping any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.

Some people may experience loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness and vomiting as the side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. You may be monitored with blood tests and liver function tests throughout your treatment.

How Zentel Tablet works

Zentel Tablet is an antiparasitic medication. It works by keeping the worms from absorbing sugar (glucose), thereby depleting their energy level. This causes the worms to die and treats your infection.

Alcohol

Pregnancy

Zentel Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Zentel Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Zentel Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Zentel Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Zentel Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
CAUTION
Zentel Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Zentel Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of eyes and skin, itching, and clay colored stools while taking this medicine.

Q. Is Zentel an antibiotic?

Zentel is an antibiotic. It is an anthelmintic drug and is used in the treatment of many parasitic infections.

Q. What is Zentel used for?

Zentel is used for the treatment of infections caused by helminths (worms) like Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm/threadworm), Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus (hookworms), Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), Strongyloides stercoralis, animal hookworm larvae causing cutaneous larva migrans, and Opisthorchis viverrini (liver flukes) and Clonorchis sinensis. It is also indicated for the treatment of Hymenolepis nana and Taenia spp. (tapeworm) infections and has shown good activity against anaerobic protozoa like Giardia lamblia and Trichomonas vaginalis. Please consult your doctor before taking any treatment for worms as there could be many worms against which Zentel would not be effective.

Q. How does Zentel work?

Zentel works by killing the larva and the adult form of the worm by inhibiting tubulin polymerization which causes energy depletion and decreases the mobility of the worm and hence kills the helminth.

Q. Can I take Zentel with fluconazole?

Zentel can be taken with fluconazole. No drug-drug interactions have been reported between the two. However, interactions can occur. Please consult your doctor before taking the two medicines together.

Q. Is Zentel safe?

Zentel is safe if taken for prescribed duration in prescribed doses as advised by your doctor.

Q. Is Zentel effective for treating pinworms?

Zentel is used for the treatment of pinworms (Enterobius vermicolaris). Zentel is active against the larval and the adult stages. Consult your doctor before taking any medicines for worm infections.
