Tilstigmin Tablet works by reducing and improving muscle weakness. It may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment. You should never stop this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor.

Some common side effects of using this medication are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, increased production of saliva, and diarrhea. It usually does not cause dizziness and sleepiness. But if you feel ill, avoid doing any such work that requires focus and attention, such as driving or operating any machinery.

Before taking Tilstigmin Tablet, it is better to inform your doctor if you are suffering from any kidney problems, Parkinson's disease, asthma, or stomach disorders. Your blood pressure may decrease after taking this medicine, so it is better to monitor it and consult your doctor if it bothers you. This medicine may cause diarrhea, so drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated while taking this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding, before taking this medicine.

Tilstigmin Tablet is used in the treatment of paralytic ileus to help restore normal bowel movement when the intestines temporarily stop functioning after surgery or illness. It promotes the movement of contents through the gut. This helps relieve abdominal bloating, discomfort, and constipation associated with reduced intestinal motility, supporting the return of normal digestive function.

Post-operative urinary retention
After an operation, there may be problems in emptying the bladder. This may be due to the disturbed coordination of nerves and muscles of the bladder. Tilstigmin Tablet helps to improve this problem and treats post-operative urinary retention effectively.

Reversal of effect of skeletal muscle relaxant after surgery
Skeletal muscle relaxants are given to induce anesthesia and to carry out surgical or certain diagnostic procedures. This blocks the conduction of signals between nerves and muscles. After the surgery, Tilstigmin Tablet is given to reverse this effect and cause muscle contraction again to restore normal function.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Tilstigmin with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Norfloxacin (Oral Route)

Caution is advised when taking Norfloxacin with Neostigmine if you have myasthenia gravis (a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles). Norfloxacin may increase the side effects of Neostigmine.

Moderate

Rivastigmine (Transdermal Route)

If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Neostigmine may increase the effect of Rivastigmine.

Moderate

Thalidomide (Oral Route)

watch out for symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, drowsiness, sedation or faintness or vomiting and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may monitor and adjust the doses as per the observations.

Does Tilstigmin Tablet treat myasthenia gravis? How long do I need to take it?

Tilstigmin Tablet relieves the symptoms of myasthenia gravis but does not cure it. It does so by reducing and improving muscle weakness. The length of time for which you need to take Tilstigmin Tablet will depend on your condition. Do not stop taking Tilstigmin Tablet until and unless advised by your doctor, even if you start feeling better.

How long does Tilstigmin Tablet take to start working?

Tilstigmin Tablet takes about 5 to 15 minutes to start working and remains effective for 2-4 hours.

If your symptoms have started reappearing, then it could be due to increased severity of myasthenia gravis or excess dose of Tilstigmin Tablet. Both conditions have similar effects, so it becomes very difficult to differentiate between the two. Do not increase the dose on your own and consult your doctor immediately.

Can I take Tilstigmin Tablet for constipation?

No, Tilstigmin Tablet should not be taken for any type of constipation. However, its use is limited to cases of constipation caused by paralysis of the intestine and strictly on prescription by the doctor.

What should I do if I accidentally take more than the dose required?

You should seek immediate medical help in case of overdose of Tilstigmin Tablet. Excess of Tilstigmin Tablet may cause stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, blurred vision, difficulty in breathing, and excessive sweating, salivation, and weakness. It can even lead to paralysis.

Does Tilstigmin Tablet have any abuse potential?

No, there is no evidence of Tilstigmin Tablet having any abuse potential.

Who should not take Tilstigmin Tablet?

Tilstigmin Tablet should not be taken by patients who are allergic to it. Patients who are constipated or cannot urinate should avoid its use, unless advised by the doctor. This is because Tilstigmin Tablet is only used for certain types of urination problems and constipation (e.g., caused by paralysis of the intestine).
