Telverge 20mg Tablet

Prescription Required

Overview

Introduction

Telverge 20mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease. Lowering blood pressure helps to prevent future heart attack and stroke. This medicine is also effective in preserving kidney function in patients with diabetes.

Telverge 20mg Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It may be taken with or without food during the day or at night. However, try to take it at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet as advised by your doctor. This medicine is tolerated well by most patients and has few side effects. Dizziness, particularly after the first dose, is known to occur in some people. This may be associated with headache. Let your doctor know if these side effects bother you or do not go away. No weight gain has been seen with the regular use of this medicine.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor may check your kidney function, blood pressure and potassium levels in your blood at regular intervals while you are taking this medicine.

Uses of Telverge Tablet

Side effects of Telverge Tablet

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of Telverge

  • Back pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Nasal congestion (stuffy nose)
  • Sinus pain

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Back pain
Stay as active as possible and try to continue your daily activities. Do not rest for long periods. Try exercises and stretches specifically designed for back pain. Walking, swimming, yoga and pilates may also be helpful. Taking baths with salt water after exercise may also reduce the pain. Hot or cold compression packs and gentle back massage can give short-term relief. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers if you need to. Back pain normally gets better on its own but if it is severe or lasts more than a couple of weeks, you should see a doctor.
  • Coping with Diarrhea
Keep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments.
  • Coping with Nasal congestion (stuffy nose)
Try saline spray or nose drops. Taking steam inhalation or placing a warm wet towel on your face can also help. Use a humidifier if the air in your house is too dry. Using an extra pillow at night to lift up your head can also improve your breathing. If your condition does not improve, you should talk to your doctor. The doctor may be able to prescribe you certain over-the-counter medicines that can help improve your condition.

How to use Telverge Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Telverge 20mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Telverge Tablet works

Telverge 20mg Tablet is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of a chemical that usually makes blood vessels tighter. This lowers the blood pressure, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly to different organs and the heart to pump more efficiently.

FAQs

Q. Should Telverge be taken in the morning or at night?

Telverge is generally recommended to be taken once daily, either in the morning or in the evening. Consider taking it at the same time each day as it will help you to remember taking it.

Q. How long does it take for Telverge to work?

You may see an improvement within a few days. But, the maximum benefit can be seen within 4-8 weeks of starting treatment.

Q. My blood pressure is now controlled. Can I stop taking Telverge now?

No, do not stop taking Telverge without consulting your doctor even if your blood pressure is controlled. Stopping it suddenly may increase your blood pressure which could be detrimental for you. Telverge does not cure high blood pressure but controls it. So, you may have to take the medicine lifelong. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Q. If I have some kidney problem, can I take Telverge? Can it further deteriorate my kidney function?

You can take Telverge if it has been advised by your doctor. Your doctor may ask you to get regular tests done (potassium and creatinine levels) in order to monitor your kidney function. Telverge may cause worsening of kidney function, therefore you should contact your doctor in case you notice swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands or unexplained weight gain.

Q. I am overweight and the doctor has prescribed me Telverge for blood pressure control. I am bothered that Telverge can increase my weight. Is it true?

No, do not worry since Telverge is not known to cause weight gain. In fact in animal studies Telverge has been found to decrease fat tissue.

Q. Does Telverge affect blood glucose levels in diabetics?

Telverge may lower blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes. Therefore, it is essential to keep a regular track of your blood glucose levels. Talk to your doctor if you are a diabetic because the dose of insulin or antidiabetic medicines may need adjustment.

Q. Can the use of Telverge cause hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood)?

Yes, Telverge can cause hyperkalemia (increased potassium level in blood). A regular monitoring of blood potassium levels may be advised by your doctor while taking this medicine.

Q. Does Telverge work by causing excessive urination?

No, Telverge does not cause excessive urination and does not belong to the diuretic class of medicines. Telverge works by relaxing the blood vessels by blocking the effect of a substance known as angiotensin II. This substance is responsible for increasing the blood pressure by narrowing down the blood vessels.

Q. Do I need to follow any precautions if I take ibuprofen and Telverge together?

If you are taking ibuprofen and Telverge together, you should continuously keep a check on your blood pressure and kidney function. Telverge may enhance the side effects of ibuprofen which may further cause water retention, especially in patients taking Telverge for heart failure. Ibuprofen may interfere with the working of Telverge and decrease its efficiency at lowering blood pressure.
