Sofokast 400mg Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It should be taken with food, preferably at a fixed time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

It has fewer side effects as compared to other similar medicines, like fatigue, headache, nausea, insomnia (difficulty sleeping) and anemia (low red blood cell count). Inform your doctor if these side effects persist for a longer duration. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.

Sofokast 400mg Tablet works by preventing the HCV virus from multiplying in your body. It helps control the infection and makes the immune system work better. This lowers your chances of getting complications and improves your quality of life. This medicine is always taken in combination with other antiretroviral medicines. It is not a cure and should neither be used to prevent HCV infection. It is important that you take this medicine as prescribed, following the dosage recommended by your doctor. Taking all doses in the right amount at the right times greatly increases the effectiveness of the medicine.

Breast feeding

CAUTION

Sofokast 400mg Tablet should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from the body.

Driving

UNSAFE

Sofokast 400mg Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Sofokast 400mg Tablet, when taken together with other medicines for the treatment of hepatitis c infection, may produce dizziness, blurred vision and this may affect your ability to drive.

Kidney

CAUTION

Sofokast 400mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Limited information is available on use of Sofokast 400mg Tablet in these patients. No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease.

Liver

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Sofokast 400mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment is recommended.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Sofokast with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Rifampicin (Injection Route)

Do not consume Sofosbuvir with Rifampicin. Rifampicin may reduce blood levels and efficacy of Sofosbuvir.

Severe

Amiodarone (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sofosbuvir with Amiodarone. If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, drowsiness, sedation, faintness, or vomiting, and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may monitor your heart rate closely and adjust the doses as per the observations. Amiodarone may reduce blood levels of Sofosbuvir.

Amiodarone (Injection Route)

Carbamazepine (Oral Route)

Do not consume Sofosbuvir with Carbamazepine. Carbamazepine may reduce blood levels and efficacy of Sofosbuvir.
