Sevista Tablet is a non-hormonal oral contraceptive medicine used to prevent pregnancy. It works by altering the reproductive cycle and making the lining of the uterus unsuitable for implantation of a fertilized egg.

Sevista Tablet may also be used to control abnormal vaginal bleeding in women who have not attained menopause (end of the monthly menstrual period). Sevista Tablet is generally taken twice a week for the first 3 months and once a week thereafter. Take the first dose on the first day of your period and the second dose 3 days later, and continue on the same two days each week for the first 3 months. From the fourth month, take it once weekly on the same day, regardless of your menstrual cycle.

Sevista Tablet is generally safe and does not cause any common side effects. However, some people may experince irregular bleeding or changes in their menstrual cycle, particularly during the first few months. Periods may sometimes become lighter or occur at longer intervals. If your period is delayed by more than 15 days, consult your doctor to rule out pregnancy.

Tell your doctor about your medical conditions before taking Sevista Tablet, particularly if you have liver problems, kidney disease, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), or certain heart and blood-vessel risk factors. Also inform your doctor about any other medicines you are taking. Remember that Sevista Tablet does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Sevista Tablet may be taken with or without food.

How Sevista Tablet works

Sevista Tablet is a non-hormonal contraceptive that modifies the action of estrogen in the female reproductive tract. It increases the movement of the fertilized egg through the fallopian tube and delays the development of the uterine lining (endometrium). As a result, the uterus is not adequately prepared for implantation when the fertilized egg reaches it, thereby helping prevent pregnancy.

Dosage

Sevista Tablet is taken twice a week for the first 3 months. Take the first dose on the first day of your period and the second dose 3 days later (on the fourth day). Continue taking it on these same two days each week for the first 3 months. From the fourth month onward, take one dose once a week on the same day, regardless of your menstrual cycle.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Sevista with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Lorlatinib (Oral Route)

Do not consume Lorlatinib with Centchroman. Lorlatinib may reduce blood levels of Centchroman.

Moderate

Tizanidine (Oral Route)

Watch out for symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, drowsiness, sedation, faintness or vomiting and consult your doctor if you experience them. They may adjust the dose of Tizanidine accordingly. Centchroman may raise blood levels of Tizanidine.

Moderate

Dabrafenib (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Dabrafenib may reduce efficacy of Centchroman.

Moderate

Danazol (Oral Route)

It is recommended to use alternative methods (IUDs, depot, or barrier methods) of contraception.

Mifepristone (Oral Route)

In case of Cushing's syndrome, your doctor may recommend you to use non-hormonal forms of contraception like, condoms during treatment and for 1 month after stopping Centchroman. Mifepristone may reduce efficacy of Centchroman.

This medicine does not cause abnormalities in the fetus and the baby has normal growth and development. However, stop taking this medicine as soon as you get to know about your pregnancy.

What if I miss my pill?

Take the missed pill as soon as you remember. If the pill is missed by 1 or more days but less than 7 days, follow the regular schedule and use an alternate method (e.g. condoms) till the next period. If the pill is missed by more than 7 days, restart the schedule like a new user.
