Sildenafil should not be taken if you are taking nitrates for chest pain or you have a history of heart attack or stroke in the past six months.

    Sublingual tablets are kept under the tongue or between the cheek and the gum. They dissolve on their own, get absorbed and act very fast as they directly reach the blood stream without going through the gut and liver, unlike other tablets which are swallowed with water. Sildenafil sublingual tablets start to work within 15 minutes compared to oral tablets which take almost 30 minutes to 1 hour to achieve the same effect. Sildenafil is seen to be beneficial in treating erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients with diabetes mellitus.

    Use of sildenafil is not recommended in patients taking nitrates (organic nitrates or organic nitrites) as their combined use can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, which can also result in death. It is advisable to keep a time gap of 24 hours between the intake of sildenafil and any nitrate substance.
