Progene 25mg Tablet should be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time every day to get the most benefit. The dose and how often you take it depend on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, you should never take a double dose. Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not improve within 7 days of treatment.

The most common side effect of this medicine is drowsiness. If this bothers you or appears serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways to reduce or prevent it. It makes skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing before going out.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have glaucoma or have asthma issues, or have high blood pressure. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. Generally, it is advised to avoid alcohol while on treatment.

Progene 25mg Tablet is used to treat many different inflammatory and allergic conditions. It works by lowering your immune system’s response to these conditions and prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. It helps relieve symptoms such as swelling, pain, itching, and other allergic-type reactions. If you are not sure why you are being given this medicine, ask your doctor.

This medicine is given orally (by mouth). You should always take it as it has been prescribed for you. Do not stop taking it without your doctor’s advice. This can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Because this medicine weakens your immune system, you should avoid being near people who are ill or have infections.

Progene 25mg Tablet blocks the action of chemicals in the body that can make you feel or be sick. It is often used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused due to some medicines or any other medical treatment. This medicine helps you recover more comfortably. How to use Progene Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Progene 25mg Tablet may be taken with or without food.

How Progene Tablet works

Progene 25mg Tablet is an antiallergic medication. When your body is exposed to an allergen (pollen, animal dander, house dust etc.), it produces a chemical called histamine. This causes watery eyes, runny or blocked nose, sneezing, skin rashes, itching etc. Progene 25mg Tablet works by blocking the action of histamine, thereby relieving these symptoms. It also works directly on several areas of the brain to prevent nausea/vomiting and help you feel more relaxed.

Use caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as Progene 25mg Tablet can cause dizziness and sleepiness.
Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication as it may cause increased sleepiness.
It may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid exposing your skin to strong sunlight, use a sunscreen lotion or make sure your skin is protected with clothing.
Do not take it for longer than 7 days. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days, talk to your doctor.
Stop taking it at least three days before taking an allergy test as it can affect the test results.
Avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery as it may decrease alertness.
Avoid consuming alcohol when taking the Progene 25mg Tablet, as it may cause excessive sleepiness or drowsiness.

Pregnancy

Progene 25mg Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy as there is positive evidence of fetal risk based on animal studies. However, it may still be prescribed by a doctor in situations where the benefits outweigh the risks.

Breast feeding

Progene 25mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby. It should be used only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk. Please consult your doctor.
For prolonged use and repeated doses of Progene 25mg Tablet, observe the baby for excessive sleepiness.

Driving

Kidney

CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR

There is limited data available on the use of Progene 25mg Tablet in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
However, caution is advised in patients with severe kidney disease as it may cause excessive sleepiness in them.

Liver

There is limited data available on the use of Progene 25mg Tablet in patients with liver disease.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Progene with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Life-threatening

Tranylcypromine (Oral Route)

Do not consume Tranylcypromine with Promethazine. If Tranylcypromine is essential, ensure a gap of at least 2 weeks after discontinuing Promethazine. Please consult your doctor.

Moderate

Clozapine (Oral Route)

Watch out for symptoms such as dry mouth, increased heart rate, urination difficulties, constipation, loss of appetite or nausea and consult your doctor if you experience them.

Moderate

Thalidomide (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, watch out for symptoms of Thalidomide side effects such as drowsiness, excessive sedation, tiredness, dizziness or slurred speech and consult your doctor if you experience them. It is advised to avoid driving or undertaking other tasks requiring skill and alertness.

Moderate

Dalteparin (Injection Route)

Your doctor may frequently monitor your blood clotting time. Promethazine may reduce the efficacy of Dalteparin.
