Normictal 400mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time, each day. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not stop taking it abruptly without discussing it with your doctor, as it may increase seizure frequency.

Some of the common side effects of this medicine include blurred or double vision, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, rash, and diarrhea. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Please consult your doctor if these side effects bother you or do not go away.

Your doctor may advice for regular monitoring of sodium levels, as it may reduce the sodium levels in your blood (hyponatremia). Inform your doctor if you are taking oral contraceptive pills as this medicine reduces their levels in the body.

Normictal 400mg Tablet is an anticonvulsant (or anti-epileptic) medicine that works by decreasing the nerve impulses which cause the seizures. By controlling the frequency of seizures, it will help you go about your daily activities with more confidence. It helps reduce symptoms such as confusion, uncontrollable jerking movements, loss of awareness, and fear or anxiety.
This medicine is not associated with any physical or psychological dependence (addiction) but it should not be stopped suddenly. It must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective. Missing doses may trigger a seizure.

Interaction with drugs

Taking Normictal with any of the following medicines can modify the effect of either of them and cause some undesirable side effects

Severe

Ulipristal acetate (Oral Route)

Do not consume Ulipristal acetate with Eslicarbazepine. If Ulipristal acetate is essential, ensure a gap of At least 4 weeks after discontinuing Eslicarbazepine. Please consult your doctor.

Severe

Pazopanib (Oral Route)

Do not consume Pazopanib with Eslicarbazepine. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Pazopanib.

Moderate

Rosuvastatin (Oral Route)

If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your cholesterol levels along with your overall treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Rosuvastatin.

Moderate

Atorvastatin (Oral Route)

Your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Atorvastatin.

Moderate

Imatinib mesylate (Oral Route)

Do not consume Imatinib mesylate with Eslicarbazepine. If concurrent use is essential, your doctor may monitor your treatment and adjust the doses as per the observations. Eslicarbazepine may reduce blood levels of Imatinib mesylate.
